5 years experience applying to a top emba- chance!!!

my brother is applying to chicago gsb (emba-singapore) understanding that it is the least selective among top emba programs. anyone has admission stats (acceptance rate, etc.) for this program? also i'd be forever grateful if you could chance him.

26 years old/ will be 27 by the time the program starts (too young?)

5 years experience of managing a family business with over 180 employees.

BA from a top 15 lac (3.21 gpa- double major in economics/ chinese).

from an under-represented country.

assuming solid essays and interview.

gmat not required.

recommendations (since he's working in a family business, whom should he ask to write his recommendations? )

Have him contact the school directly and ask them these questions. They should be able to give him admission stats, advice about recommendations, and a sense of what he'd need to present. Managing a family owned business of that size with, I assume, the probability of taking it over some day is likely to be a huge draw by itself. (I saw plenty of not very stellar students at Harvard Business School who were clearly there because their father's owned companies.)

College professors, clients, and other supervisors can be used as references if you are uncomfortable with requesting one from your current employer. Your reference should know you and your work well enough to tell us about your abilities and address the areas indicated on the reference form. If you do not use a current employer, you may comment on the reasons in the optional essay.

Full-Time MBA Frequently Asked Questions - University of Chicago Graduate School of Business

The GMAT is required for applicants to the full time program, according to the GSB website, and the average score according to US News is 703 (I couldn't find it on the website). In 2003, median undergraduate GPA was 3.5 and the acceptance rate was 15%. That's from Forbes B-School rankings. Again, I couldn't find the information from the U of C website. The numbers are likely a little more competitive today, if Forbes even has the right information to begin with.

Your brother should really be able to do his own research on these basics. If you can't find the information, call the Admissions office, and I'm sure they'd be happy to help.

^ he's not applying to a full-time mba but an executive mba (asia campus in singapore). there's no info about acceptance rate available anywhere for this particular program.

Then he needs to contact the program himself! I'm sure he's big boy enough to do that after running the family business for 5 years....right?

Then we probably won't know it either. Try calling the Admissions office.

x-posted

i just wanted to hear from those familiar with this particular program. I know i can call them but that's not the point, i'm more interested in hearing from alums or other applicants. btw i did email them once asking about their acceptance rate but they refused to release such data (probably too embarassingly high?).
