<p>If not, why would anyone fork over $500?</p>
<p>If you are definitely going to UW, why are your parents reluctant to pay? Or, what does your FinAid package say? Call up FinAid office to see if they can front your deposit.</p>
<p>So, if you have already accepted UW, with the funding for UW committed - what's the beef with room deposit (other than it is a bit more steep than other colleges my D as applied to).</p>
<p>i dont have a beef i just think its dumb that right before they make housing available for fall that they say oh by the way it will be $500 instead of $300... as far as i knew</p>

<p>I believe that the 500$ deposit is refundable if you cancel your housing app. before May (via <a href="http://hfs.washington.edu/student_housing/residence_halls.aspx?id=1715#Cancellation_Fees%5B/url%5D">http://hfs.washington.edu/student_housing/residence_halls.aspx?id=1715#Cancellation_Fees</a>) </p>
<p>So even if you don't go, you can still keep your money. It would just be in a temporary purgatory type system.</p>
<p>Also, 500$ is very little compared to what you will be paying to attend college, unless you are receiving lots of aid, in which case it may be a different story, and I would imagine that they might even subsidize your deposit in such a circumstance.</p>
