50K UT Austin? or 20K Uof Delaware for Chemical Engineering?

I'm deciding between the two. (Chemical Engineering)
Obviously, UT Austin is better both socially and academically (not trying to offend anyone. But this is simply true).

However, UT Austin would cost me 50K a year, whereas U of Delaware would cost me 20K a year...

But I heard there are ways, in which I can get instate tuition after a year of attending.

The only thing that is holding me back from going to UT Austing is the money.
But...
1. I may be able to get Instate tuition after one year.
2. I can try hard and get scholarship after a year.

If I can diminish the financial pressure the UT Austin has on my family, I would totally go...

Should I just go to U of Delaware or UT Austin?

It is not easy to get instate tuition in Texas, so you heard wrong. You must not be claimed as a dependent, you should stay in TX for a year without returning home for breaks or vacations, get a driver’s license etc. There are other requirements as well. Just living there as a student doesn’t cut it. The state really tries hard to keep students from getting residency.

although, overall UT is better than Delaware academically, for ChE they are very close…

Delaware has been a top 12 ChE department for decades…a long tradition…

this looks like a University of Delware decision to me…

UT is more than twice the price of U Del.

That is to say that even if you had to repeat your entire first year at U Del, you would still save money over attending U T for just one year. It makes no sense whatsoever to go to U T now.

I know. If i do go to UT, i wiuld be an independent, work 52 consecutive weeks, pay tax, file a tax return, pay utilities, etc. I am aware and i am willing to do so.
If i do go to UT by chance, that is.

Hmm… I see. I truly appreciate all your opinions.
But what if i can get ibstate tuition? Would it still not be worth it?

Some of it depends on where you think you want to wind up after college. if you plan on the mid-Atlantic states, Texas gets you nothing over Delaware in chem eng. Otherwise, Texas would be the better choice.

$50,000 is almost $1000 every week. That is a huge chunk of change!

Unless you absolutely despise UDelaware, I would save the money and go there.
