What would you do? D and I will visit in a couple of weeks & have some time to kill prior to seeing a show. We've done some of the touristy things before - looking for ideas of funky / cool / scenic places to see & fun/cheap places to eat, preferably near the theater district, but we can get around by cab/subway as well.

not fancy, not expensive , just a place worth trying

Thanks @zobroward! I think I’ve come up with a good plan - we’ll start by going to the top of the Empire State Bldg (never done that particular touristy thing before), then walk on the High Line, then have lunch in the Village & explore a little. We’ll take the subway back up to the theater district. I’m hoping to find a good bagel somewhere in those wanderings.

Not sure if you’ve already made up your mind, or if this is anywhere near, but I would HIGHLY recommend the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
