Hey everyone i am from India and on the turning point of my life and i need suggestions. i have got admission in university of southern california but my parents can afford only 1st year tuition fees from their savings and rest 3 yrs they cannot help me fully. And second option i have is going to LA community college during spring for 2+2 option.
What are my chances that i ll get scholarship in my 2nd year at USC? (this year i couldn't get scholarship because i missed the deadline) AND what are my chances that after studying in CC for 2 yrs i ll get transfer into a good university?
My SAT score - 1980 and i have scored 93% in my final high school exams.

There is NO guarantee that you are going to get a scholarship. If you do go to USC, you will be making a big mistake. What are you going to do if you don’t get a scholarship? Plus, you are probably going to have to take out loans, which will accrue interest. By the time you graduate, you are going to be 190,000 dollars in debt, not counting interests. Plus, I’m telling you right now, paying 63,000 dollars to go to USC is NOT worth it. Just go to a community college, and then transfer to USC. The classes at community colleges are really affordable.

Someone else asked a similar question to your’s. The same advice applied to your question!

<a href=“66k a year tuition. Is it worth it? - Financial Aid and Scholarships - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/1663625-66k-a-year-tuition-is-it-worth-it-p1.html

Okay thank you so much for your advice but i had few more doubts:
- After 2 yrs will i 100% get a good university like USC if i maintain a good GPA
2.and if i look for universities other than in California will they consider my 2 yr study at LACC ?

You need to plan now for how you will pay for all four years of your education if you come to the US. If your parents only have US$ 63,000 then you need to find places where your cost of attendance (tuition, fees, meals, housing, books, materials, transportation to and from your home once each year, personal expenses, etc.) are no more than US$15,750 for each year. I do not know of anyplace in the US, even a community college, where the full cost of attendance for an international student would be that inexpensive.

USC is too expensive for you. Take a Gap Year, and look for places that would be affordable for your family for all four years. During your Gap Year, study for the SAT and take it again. If you raise it to 2000 or above, you will have more options for merit-based aid.

Only freshmen get the big merit awards which follow them for 4 years. Later years don’t get them. It works like that pretty much anywhere. There may be small awards only. Your SAT wouldn’t likely have got you one of the big merits anyway, sure within the realm is possibility but not very likely. This school is unaffordable for you. It’s tough to get in and not be able to go but really you shouldn’t have applied since the financials are so far out of reach. The very WORST thing is to pay the money and not be able to pay to finish.

If you go to a CCC, you would have a very good chance to transfer to USC or a UC. But you still have the problem of being full pay for two years. You won’t get enough aid to make that affordable. Yes CCC can transfer to other states. Transfer is not always seamless OOS and you would have to be careful about what to select. The CC’s usually have transfer agreements that map requirements instate only. Transfers are often full pay.

I think it is smarter to apply for a gap year and get more affordable options. I don’t know why you are asking so late in the year. Did you have any affordable option earlier?

You cannot afford this school.
