Hey all. I was wondering whether it would be possible for me to raise my 63 PSAT writing score to a 750+ on the SAT writing (for January 22). I know that this doesn't give me a lot of time but I'd love to get the SAT done with as quickly as possible.

I'm good at mathematics and critical reading but my SAT writing skills are absolutely terrible. The essay shouldn't be a problem... I'm expecting 10+. I just need to get the rules down.

Is it possible? How should I approach the topic of SAT writing in the 4 weeks leading up to the SAT? (Don't forget that Christmas Break is coming up leaving me ample time to study)

It is very possible. The best way is to take practice tests (or only the writing sections, in this case), plain and simple. Use *The Official SAT Study Guide/i or if you don’t have it or want to practice at this instant, look over some old online practice exams released by the College Board over the years. There are some (if not all) linked in this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/766525-official-sat-practice-booklets-past-current.html

Yes, Writing is relatively easy to improve in. The ‘tricks’ in the questions, once you get used to them, will become incredibly obvious once you practice more. Just going through Writing sections one at a time (while checking answers - and looking back at ones you weren’t sure on, even if you got them right) is the most effective way really.

Yes it’s possible. I went from 620-650 Critical Reading last year to 710-770 Critical Reading this year. d^_^d

OMG no way. I got a 63 in writing, AND I’m taking the SAT on Jan 22!!!

I got a 53 PSAT writing & got a730 on the actual sat

Thanks for all your replies. Time to hit the (blue) book.

IDK, the writing is pretty easy if you know the rules. But the essay always killed me, thinking on the spot is really hard.

I went from 61 on the psat to 750 (with perfect mc) just by looking at the writing questions thread a bit. The more difficult questions are concentrated there, and the explanations provided were quite helpful to me. So I would recommend checking that out in addition to doing some practice tests.
