660 Critical Reading, Need 700+

I took the SAT twice and got a 660 both times on critical reading. How do I get to at least 700 or 710 (better than that would be great, but I don't know if that's possible for me)? And it is mainly the passage questions that screw me over. I only miss 2-3 vocab questions total. And is Rocket Review a good book for CR?

Also, I've done every critical reading passage from both the old CollegeBoard SAT and new CollegeBoard SAT book. I've also done all the passages in the Princeton Review book. However, I did these a while ago, so I guess doing them again may not be a terrible idea. What should I do? I'm taking the SAT in November.

My advice is for you to get the Direct Hits book with the hardest vocabulary in the SATs and study the words. Then, you can gain back those 2-3 vocab questions that you missed. Those 2-3 questions can raise you up to 690 at least. For the passages, read CAREFULLY and eliminate those answers that you know are definitely wrong. Then, you will be left with the right answer. I recommend you read SilverTurtle’s guide to the SAT in this forum if you haven’t done so. Good luck!

Scoring in the high 600s in CR indicates a considerably better than average ability to read and understand difficult written passages. Scoring in the 700s takes significant innate intellectual ability that few people have and a lifetime of voluminous reading experience of very sophisticated material to be able to read and understand the written passages and questions well enough to distinguish the very subtle differences between the four different possible answers and selecting the correct one.

^Meh, I beg to differ. My scores in CR range from 650-800. You can get those last few questions right by intellect, luck, or a lot of practice. Also, sentence completion can be an issue too which doesn’t have much to do with comprehension imo.

In my tests & practices , I realized several things , at first , PRACTICE more than anything & READ elegant stories . By the way , if you got all the vocab’s SAT books , you will still encounter words in the SAT , that you haven’t seen before , but still you can the question right , because you will find it somehow familiar or somehow unsuitable , follow your inner feelings , and by the way , luck can help with one question only !! So don’t rely on it !!

Have A Question ( if you please ) , apart from CR , What is your writing score ?! I am terribly sorry , if this question might abash you or any thing , just don’t frustrate , and don’t answer !! I meant to give it to raiderade !!

My advice is: PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE! Understand why each answer is correct! Get DirectHits.

That is complete bull crap. My first score, a few months ago as a Freshman, was 580. After practice, I am now a rising sophomore scoring from 690-720. With even more practice, I wish to score 770+. The best advice is to not give up.
