7 AP Tests in 1 Year?! I must be insane...

Ugh I can't believe I'm seriously considering it. Okay here's how it began:

I started with 4. Stats, Euro, Eng Lit, Physics C. Then added the Physics C Elec/Magnet exam b/c I didn't want to learn Kinetics all over again as review.

After Academic Decathlon (total disaster), my coach was disappointed so he's making us do an independent study AP to make the school look good. That's how I added Art History.

And my AcaDec coach is also teaching us government, so he wants me to take the AP Gov't exam because it's "easy."

...

I think I want to cut out one exam, but I'm not sure. What do you think?

imagining if I got 7 5's...wow....lol

not really. In fact you're taking everything i'm taking except the two government tests. Actually i'm not taking Art History but u get my point. Not insane. Perfectly normal

I'm not taking the 2 gov't tests....haven't figured out which one my coach is telling me to take though. ^^:;

eesh for both eng lit and physics c the teacher is a first year AP teacher though..not too much confidence.

How can someone "make" you do an independent-study? Sounds like you are being used.

Art History is pretty pointless - most schools don't award credit for it. You can handle all those tests. Now if you were taking Physics, USH, World History, Comparative Govt, Biology, Chemistry, and Calc BC...I'd be a little worried.

my acadec coach controls 3 of my grades this year: ap euro, acadec, and gov't. he already gave us a really hard gov't test today that everyone failed...ugh. so he pretty much has a large degree of control on my life right now. ^^;;

well we are being used to make the school look good since were weren't top 10 in aca dec. there really is no other indep study i'd be willing to take though. hmm wish i could do bio, chem, or calc bc over. those were fun. ^^v

its not crazy i am doing it.

Actually, that's got crazy. At my school, about 20 seniors take 7 or more AP's in a year (mostly 7). (I actually know one person that's going to be taking 9 this year!)

I think that's pretty crazy in just one year :)! Are you a junior? I took about a total of 7 from my Sophomore and Junior year. Good luck! You can do it!

yeah, i'm taking 9 exams this year... it's not that crazy in the general scope of ap students around the country, but it may be crazy for you.

Well, in theory, it seems "okay," but when it comes down to those two weeks of non-stop testing...eek.

I'm a full IB student. IB tests last two days each - usually, you sit an afternoon session the first day and a morning session the next day. Full IB = six tests. Plus I have two or three AP tests. It adds up to I think thirteen days of testing. I don't want to hear it.

Not too crazy... I guess it matters by what school you are in. (In my school, most people perceive taking four AP's as "too much".)

What is crazy is that your Acadec coach is making your whole team take an AP for Indpendent Study just because your team wasn't in the Top Ten!

lol don't be mean to this kid! Im sure that for your school it might be considered insane yet here on cc you have to remember your dealing with a large group of extreme overachievers. Anyways, Good luck and remember make sure you pass all these Ap's not just take as many as you can ;)

lets be realistic here... most people around the country would think 3 or 4 AP exams is crazy, not to mention 7. Its a lot of work and a lot of money if your exams are not subsidized.

Short answer? YES, you are crazy. And so is everyone else who is doing it. At my school, which offers 6 APs in total, people expect you to drop all your extracurriculars to keep up with 3 APs at a time.

Well... I believe that if you can take more than 3 AP classes at once, that your teachers are not being real AP teachers. (Unless you do not have a life.) AP is suppose to be one of the most rigorous courses you can take in your high school career, and taking more than 3 AP courses show colleges that teachers are not being prepared like they are suppose to.(This is all my opinion...)

murrah if the kid does well on the exams I think it checks back your argument. Perhaps taking 7 or 8 exams(in my case) is not the healthiest thing or even the sane thing to do; however if one does well then there is no point in complaining. I have to pay 82 dollars for my 8 exams this year, there are not many people on this forum that wouldnt jump at that opportunity for the price.

ryan, in my county, the school board pays for all AP exams. That's why (I guess) it's so common at my school to be taking so many.

Same here except some ind. study exams. I have to pay for Macro this year.

Okay let's try to respond to multiple things in one post here...

I'm a Senior xD

My school doesn't offer IB classes, so sorry if I seem a bit "lower" than you sheetmusic since I'm worried about 7 APs, but you don't have to act like you're better than me b/c you have no idea who I am.

And yea in my school 7 AP classes...heh heh ^^;; I think i might be making history if I don't fail them all. The most anyone's ever done was 6 last year, our #2 ranked guy, and he got no sleep. Last year everyone thought I was insane for taking 5 AP's. Well if last year's #2 can do 6, let's see if this year's #1 can do 7. xD (We just got reranked today. I'm so happy I kept my #1 spot.)
