I'm going to go crazy because of the constant back and forth between schools! At first I had five, then 8, then 5 again. These five are Exeter, Andover, Hotchkiss, Choate and St. Albans. I would like to attend all of these, but my mom wants me to also apply to Roxbury Latin and Lawrenceville, equally good school but not my priorities. Are seven schools too many recs to ask for and essays to write?

Well I’m applying to 6 schools. Some people choose to apply to more as “safety schools.” Lol, I think that’s why I’m doing it also. Although I don’t have much experience in general with the boarding school app process, I know that there is a common recommendation form so that you can ask your teachers once and send it to multiple schools. And as for the essays, I’m assuming all the schools will be asking abouttttt the same kind of questions.

It can be done. I’ve known applicants who completed many more applications than that . . . and survived to tell the story!

As suggested, use the TABS common recommendation forms. Give one copy to each teacher along with lots of stamped addressed envelopes!

As for the essays, I’d suggest you start by making a list of all the essay questions. Then, identify the questions that are identical. (Some of them will be!) Then look for the ones that are nearly identical - so that all you’ll need are a few minor adjustments to submit the same essay to multiple schools. Then look for questions that have common elements. Since most of the schools offer you a choice of essay questions, you’d be surprised how many essays you’ll end up being able to submit to multiple schools.

It requires organization, but it won’t be as hard as you think!
