So I'll be applying ED to a top 20 college but my SAT II scores are not optimal. Got 5s on all my APs, but it has worked out so that I was taking my SAT IIs long after the corresponding class.

Which of these are worth sending? Should I send any? I am going for polysci/related majors, and I wanted to take Math II to prove I wasn't horrid at math (got a C+ one year, although it is now an A+). I self studied APUSH and got a 5, so it was surprising I only got what I got on my SAT USH.

US History: 700
Math II: 660
Literature: 640

I got a 33 ACT and that will may go up with my second taking. My ED school does not require subject tests. Should I send any of them?

I wouldn’t send any score below 700, if they’re not required. I don’t think I’d send the US History one either; I don’t think it would really hurt you, but I also don’t think it would help you, and it’s not required.

That’s so weird about the score, by the way. I only got a 4 on APUSH but a 780 on the US SATII.

Depending on your definition of “a top 20 college”, I would suggest that you not send the scores. The US History and Literature scores are only slightly above the national average and the Math II is in the 37%. You can see the Percentile Ranks here:

Remember that students who take the Subject Tests are a self-selected subset of the total SAT/ACT group. Your 33 ACT score puts you in the 99% percentile of the larger group, but a significantly lower percentile of those who choose to take the SAT II. Generally only students who are applying to the most highly selective colleges take these tests and they are generally the high scorers.

However, these high scorers are also the students who you are competing against for admission to your top 20 college.

It is also worth noting that there are significant differences between the AP exams and the Subject Tests. APs are intended to evaluate your mastery of the specified curriculum and go more in-depth with questions. SAT II’s are intended to evaluate your general aptitude in the subject and stay at a lower, but more broad, level.

I agree – I would NOT send any of your subject test scores to any school that does not require them. NOT submitting them to those schools shouldn’t hurt you but submitting them would hurt you, because they then could compare them to the kids who scored very high and as such, did submit them. Your SATII scores are quite low compared to your AP scores and your ACT composite.
