Hello,
My mom is half white, so I am 75% asian, 25% white. I’m not really sure what to mark on my college apps.
If I mark asian and white, would colleges assume I’m trying to say that I’m 50% asian, 50% white?
I also am aware of the stigma that putting 100% asian will hurt my chances at colleges. How much impact would 75% asian, 25% white cause- or would it make no difference at all?
Thank you!!!
No. They will assume that you are some mix of Asian and Caucasian.
As opposed to 100% of either? Probably no meaningful difference.
IMHO, Asian and white (and mixed) applicants) are the default-- those that are least favored. But not dis-favored, in my opinion. I would tell you not to worry
Often, there is a choice for ‘mixed race’, just choose that. Frankly, it bothers me that they can even ask it on an application.
If it was asked on a job application the employer would get punished.
Yeah I wouldn’t mark both. I think you can check that you prefer not to say on the common app. Maybe do this. Although they may think that you are asian, which you are, by doing this as people are trying to avoid the stigma. If you were 50/50 you probably could choose, but I think you should probably mark asian as this makes up the majority of your race.
Oh I didn’t look ok at this close enough. Yes, you probably can mark both if you want and it would be ok
