Hey, I was accepted into USF a couple months back and since then I’ve been waitlisted at four other schools: UC Davis, UC Irvine, CSULB, and U of Minnesota, with a major in psychology. When I finally created myUSF account to meet the enrollment deadline today, I saw that the deposit amount was a whopping $750. Even though I got 16k in Provost money for tuition, dropping $750 for deposit irks me in my veins considering the possibility of me getting into the four schools listed above. The deadline for USF enrollment is May 1st, and I hear back from waitlists between May 1 and June 1. Should I pay the *huge enrollment fee and secure a place in USF or test my luck waiting it out for the waitlist schools? If I get into any of the above I’ll most likely attend that school instead, and down goes my $750. Any help with my dilemma?
Wow, $750 is a hefty deposit. The public CA universities ask for $100. Sounds like your concern about $750 speaks to a bigger issue. After the $16K scholarship, this university is going to cost you more than $45K a year – and you’re ambivalent about putting down the deposit? You should probably commit only if you’re willing to live with the large price tag and can afford it without an extreme financial burden on you or your parents.
Woah. That is just unreasonable. And I was upset that UMASS was asking for $500. I don’t blame you for being irked but I’m not sure what else you can do but pay it.
Also, a psychology major is available EVERYWHERE. Think about community college and then transferring to a UC or CSU if USF is just plain too expensive?
I feel like the only thing that makes me feel better about the deposit is that it’s applied towards tuition. Really, it’s like paying in advance for the first semester.
