Or you could go through college oblivious about the quality or logos of any clothing, handbags, watches, etc.
Problem solved!

Among the Mercedes, the Volvos and the BMWs that parents are driving at my D’s school, I drive a dented Camry with 200,000 miles on it. Sure, I drive it partly because I’m cheap. But I also drive it to make a point.
There may be more than one motivation to the choices people make in what they drive, or in the handbags they carry.
I would be embarrassed to drive a dented car if I have the money to fix it.
I don’t know why anyone would object to Chinese nationals spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on our economy.
LOL, people in NYC often don’t bother to fix a dent, as a new one will rapidly appear (and yes I know the post about dents was written by a poster in the midwest).
Once you get that first dent, you’ll quickly get over the appearance of your car. My all time favorite car was the one I inherited from my father, a beat up 78 Grand Prix.
We in CA like our cars to look nice.
It’s just a car. Too many really important things in life to worry about besides that.
Guess you haven’t seen my s’s car, LOL. That, or it will stick out on the roads there like a sore thumb.
We don’t worry about it. We just do it.
Every car on the roads in the entire state of CA is pristine and dent free (my s’s excepted)? Really?
People here are not nonchalant about their cars. They are very important to our way of life. We are respectful towards others cars and make efforts not to ding them. Dealer service offers to fix dings when you bring your car in for servicing.
It still seems like a significant over-generalization for the entire state (north, south, urban, rural). And a peculiar sense of priorities.
Yeah, no. You should see my S’s car. Or my wife’s for that matter…
@bay We’re doing stupid things with that money, like putting it in the 401K or in the college fund, rather than repairing an 11-year-old Camry that otherwise runs fine.
I think some residents of CA would find your priorities topsy-turvy, Midwestdad. Maybe you can drive it to a CA dealership and get the dings removed for free (though its likely the other dealer costs are much higher in CA)
@jym626 2,243 miles via I-40. Here I come!
I have a 401k too
MidwesdDad,
Whats another 2K miles when you already have over 200K?? It’ll clean out the carbon from the engine! Road trip!!
I have a clunker. My daughter is going to take it for her business. It’s nice but old about 200,000 mikes. However because we own it for years, almost 18 years with no accident and we put 4 brand new tires so it’s hard to throw away.
