If only they only tried to cheat the immigration system, they would be heroes and dreamers and be at the State of the Union address.
They crossed the line when they went against the ETS and college admissions.
I guess I’m surprised at the indictments. Usually the College Board is the one we hear chasing down fraudsters. It must be the visa fraud and passport fraud angle.
Good!!! About time!
Considering our immigration enforcement, I doubt that very, very much.
A related story in the WSJ:
**U.S. Schools Expelled 8,000 Chinese Students **
http://blogs.wsj.com/chinarealtime/2015/05/29/u-s-schools-expelled-8000-chinese-students-for-poor-grades-cheating/
And possibly finding professional tutors to write their papers for them while in college. At least that happens in my locality, maybe not widespread. I don’t have more information than reported on the above expelled students but do have plenty of info on non-(yet)-expelled students.
This is widespread. I heard that there are even HS students who use professional “editors” for their college apps. They do a heck of a lot more than point out a missing comma or a split infinitive.
The “paper-mills” are also amazing. One guy described how he was so proficient in putting out papers, including PhD thesis and analysis. Can’t find that link.
But this one is even better: http://elitedaily.com/humor/student-proves-teacher-isnt-reading-assignments-by-writing-about-sprite-instead-of-shakespeare/
Yes, I’m aware that many do. Not I, in case that’s what you were insinuating.
My son studies Computer Science and he knew of a large ring of Chinese students at his college where these students paid others to write programs and other assignments in CS classes. He noted that many of these same Chinese students drove BMW’s, Mercedes Benz and even a Maserati to school, so they were probably the prince(ss)lings of high up Chinese officials. He got fed up with it last quarter, notified a prof of what was going on, and he noticed several hadn’t returned for Spring quarter. Whether this was directly because of that case of cheating I don’t know, but its good to see that at least some are getting caught and paying the price for it and hopefully we’ll see a whole lot more of these cheaters get expelled in the coming months.
@epiphany No insinuation at all implied.
Good. Cheaters shouldn’t prosper. And while we’re at it… http://www.buzzfeed.com/mollyhensleyclancy/college-admissions-and-the-business-of-making-asian-kids-les?utm_term=.mcKKDGQ7OX#.omZEMkllEo

@yakisoba You are quoted in the above article. Did you take up percussion?
@jym626 Wow. That is an appalling article. Imagine if were written for other races as “making RACE seem less RACE”. The internet would melt down.
Equally appalling that the articles promotes the idea of an Indian or Chinese “soulless stereotype”. I don’t believe that a person who is passionate about playing the cello - even playing it on the streets (their example) is soulless. Heck, they even mention that running track is bad for that group. Wut? That is worse than some person who plays left field in baseball?
I’m not surprised. My neighborhood has lots of Chinese from China, not Taiwan or HongKong. They are by definition of spoiled brats. Consumed a lot of American products and they don’t even learn American culture. I’m not surprised when Chinese students come online asking about prestige colleges. My Chinese acupuncturist even agrees with me.
@Madison85 Yooooo that’s kinda cool tbh imo
@yakisoba and Congrats on your 2160 SAT as a sophomore!
Lol ty
Did you know you were quoted in the article I linked, yaki?
The Chinese gov’t blocked this video because it doesn’t want its people seeing how the children of corrupt Chinese civil servants live overseas:
