8 essay- retake?

Hi there.

These are my scores for the January SAT:

CR 750
M 770
W 750 (MC 78, E 8)
--total 2270

I'm very happy with my score overall and I really don't want to have to go through that whole stressful process again, but I'm pretty disappointed with what I got for the essay. I know I can improve it just by doing more practice (the actual test was the first time I'd done an SAT essay under timed conditions).

So...is it worth retaking just to up my essay score by a few points? (I know for the January test, the same MC score as mine + an 11 essay resulted in 800 for writing, yet from what I've seen, colleges care less about writing than they do about CR and math.)

Thanks!

Some colleges will only look at Math and Reading, so a 1520 is way above average.

Either way, a 2270 is nothing to complain about.

You’re in great shape. Spend your time focusing on school and extracurriculars.

If you’re taking it just to improve your writing score, then don’t do it. However, if you’re going for an 800 on the CR and math as well (and think you can do it) then I saw “why not.”

Do it, sure. Nothing to lose but 4 hours on a saturday, and maybe 10 hours total of practice.

If this is your first time taking the SAT, I say definitely go for the retake

Thanks, everyone! I think I will retake then. I’m not going to be doing it until October, so that gives me plenty of time to do some extra prep.

Improve on Math. Not to be racist but if you’re from a school geared for America in Hong Kong your Math mark should definitely be 800.

But good job 2270 is excellent.

I was in pretty much the same exact situation and I decided to retake too. Good luck!
