2270 retake?

Hey guys,

so i took the sat in june and got 800cr (miracle), 790m, and 680w

in normal circumstances i would be happy with this score but unfortunately that 680 in writing is due to an essay score of 6 :( (i only missed 1-2 mc)

should i retake the test just to improve writing?

No. Do not retake the SATs. You could actually do worse. Your scores are excellent and many schools, such as U of Chicago, don't really care about the writing score. With the scores that you have, the only thing that will matter is things like the quality of your highschool record, extra curriculars and the like.

retake it if you KNOW, not think, you can get higher. or you could aim for just the writing score because colleges will still superscore this year.

na i dont think you should thats a good enough score for pretty much anywhere and its writing and most colleges still dont care much for that section
if it were math, then i would say ya retake but not writing

no, thats an absolutely great score..congrats on the 800 in critical reading =]

hey thanks for the replies guys!
and thx anisha, i really lucked out on that

by the way, my sister is a rising 7TH GRADER and she took the SAT (parents) and she got an 8 on the essay...so i may need to retake this just to maintain some pride :)

My friend retook a 2280

No, there are better ways to spend your Saturday morning. Go do something totally unrelated to college.

yeah retake it because 2270 isnt a good score these days

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but I sure hope you are. It is completely unnecessary to retake a 2270.

you should retake for a 2270. an essay score of 6 is REALLY bad, and can often impact adcom's decisions on your entrance into a college. : /

You Have A 1590!!!!!!!

It Is Awesome!!! Do Not Retake!!!!!!

thx again for the responses

does anyone know how much do top schools, or which ones, weight/count the writing portion? particularly the essay?

Top schools take your Math and CR waaay more seriously than your Writing. It's almost as if they know Writing is a joke.

Unless your major is journalism or something requiring skillful writing, don't retake. 680 with about 10 point essay is acceptable. 680 is pretty close to 700, so spend your time having some fun or doing something else.
once you get 800 it's hard to reach that level again I believe :P

LOL. seriously, i love how everyone here is saying that a 2270 is fine. almost like they're trying to sabotage the competition. honestly, that 6-- is going to pretty much defeat your chances of getting into a top tier school. your other scores seem fine enough, so i guess it's not as bad, but honestly, there are other top qualified candidates with MUCH better SAT scores. or if not, they're at least surpassing the 700 mark on each individual category. good luck though.

^ Lol, no he didn't, that score is impossible. The College Board doesn't give out scores with anything but 0's in the ones digit place.

@ MechanicalWeiner - was that post a joke? It's hard to tell..

Buddy, 2270 is 99+ percentile. That's higher than average at HYPS. You can look it up if you don't believe me. When you have an 800 math score and a 790 CR score, you can't GET much better than that. A 680 on the writing section wouldn't kill anyone's chances.

A 680 is pretty low, but its not gonna kill your chances. And your other sections are great.
You can still retake it if you are really worried, but if its gonna harm your other stats like ECs or GPA, then you should just leave it as is.
