<p>A new report out today from the National Center for Education Statistics, the U.S. Education Departments statistical arm, says 88 percent of two- and four-year colleges reported enrolling students with disabilities in the 2008-9 academic year, or more than 707,000 students. About one-third of the students had a specific learning disability. A large number of the institutions, 93 percent, offered some students with disabilities additional time to take exams, and 71 percent offered the students an alternative exam format. At 77 percent of the colleges, students with disabilities were provided with note-takers; 72 percent provided written course notes or help with learning strategies; and 70 offered adaptive equipment and technology.
