8thgradeitis?

yea...its the same here

yeah...i dont get my english teacher either...its weird cuz she writes all these great comments about my papers on the side, but then she gives me like a C...before this year(hon. eng 10) i have always done well on papers, and I think it has improved because I ask other people to read them for me brfore i turn them in...she always takes off crazy amounts of points for stupid things...like for a comma error, she'll take 2 points off, and on a 30 point assignment thats ridiculous..and i know she doesnt have anything against me because she always goes out of her way to talk to me in the hall, and learned my name really quickly....whatever...i have no idea how to change this because I dont know what she wants from me...she always tells us what she wants from a paper AFTER we turn it in...ugh...it is screwing over my GPA...

omg yeah! i would get a lower grade than usual this year on essays/paragraphs, when i asked the teacher and he was pointing out my mistakes he would tell me that he doesnt usually apply that to the other eighth graders but because he thinks that im writing on a "higher level" he is a little harsher on me. i was pretty mad. hes a terrible teacher anway, we read to kill a mockingbird and i had to correct him a dozen times.

well this sounds bad. prepchick, you have to go ask your teacher WHY, WHY is it a bad paper. She cant just say, "oh i gave you a bad score because you're a bad writer". well, WHY are you a bad writer? WHAT is wrong with the paper, just besides, "bad'? after all, one can only improve if they see what they are doing wrong! your teacher is not being helpful at all.

I love lit this year, but my teacher wastes a lot of time. I don't know if you've read Macbeth, but today she spent the ENTIRE 80 minute period discussing if the dagger in Macbeth's 2nd solioquoy should be visible to the audience..the entire period...for just a yes/no..not even that improtant

Haha eighth grade... my fourth marking period grades were math - D, science - D, language arts - B, reading - C, social studies - C, tv production - B, gym - A, french - A. :)

grades dont count in 8th grade anyway, dont sweat it!

but if you really wanna see whats up, give one of us your next topic and a few days and we'll whip somthing up to see if we can collectivly get an A on an 8th grade english paper. :D

by 12th you'll be able to whip out 3 pages in 40 minutes (and they'll be good) for those APs.

I dunno I think some 8th grade grades do count. Well, mine did any way. I took Alg I and German II and got Cs in both of them. Which really really sucks because it contributed to my high school GPA which was lowered by a lot. I started out with like a 2.25. Oh well. It's a 3.7 now.
But if it won't count to your high school gpa or any sort of fast track acceptance i would just say '***** it' and not try as hard the rest of the year. You'll be in high school next year, no reason to start stressing out early.

Oh and by the way, no offense but who cares if you were a straight A student in elemantary and middle school. That doesn't count for just about anything.

Interesting, I took alg/geom, and spanish 1/2 in middle school too, didn't get credits for any of that though :-/

right, as long as you're passing, don't sweat it, you'll have a better teacher next year. It doesn't even matter if you souck horribly at writing, if you put effort into it, and meet the reqs, you're golden with that A.

but I really wanna write an 8th grade essay now haha.

hey i'll have a new topic by next week probably....it will be on frederick douglas but you need to use 2 quotes, the paper is 1 page with at least 2 paragraphs, and she has these stupid "3 point no-nos" and when you get one (for example, using a comma instead of a semi colon, she takes off 3 points.)

You can start writing now, and proofread specifically tailoring it to her mistakes...it may be that she wants a certain style and no else. I have learned that one has to tailor writing styles to individual teachers; some are grammar sticklers, while others value good analysis; some want length, and others want papers chock-full of facts and quotes to back them up.
If you can look at good papers and see what is in them, then compare those to your writing. You may find the problem and be able to fix it, as I did this year.

That seems easy..1 page! Crazy fun! Two paragraphs is nothing to even think about. I swear I rarely get a day w/o a five paragraph essay now, but i remember in 6th or 7th grade my first five paragraph essay took me forever. i thought it was so hard
