I decided to be cautious and applied to 9 schools, and was accepted into all nine. My intended major is pre-med/biomedical sciences (depending on the school.) I've visited seven of the campuses and have done research on all the schools, so I guess I'm just really looking for some honest opinions. If you could please name the top 3 schools you'd suggest from this list for my major with 2/3 being SUNY schools (trying not to go to broke during undergrad so I have more options for med school.) I'm also looking for a good balance between academics and social life so that is also a factor I'm considering. Thanks ahead of time for all suggestions, I really need the help : )

-Binghamton University (SUNY)
-Stony Brook University (SUNY)
-University at Buffalo (SUNY)
-Syracuse University
-State University of New York at Oswego (SUNY)
-University of Rochester
-Nazareth
-University at Albany (SUNY)
-Wells College

syracuse or rochester if you can go private without having oodles of loans. after that, bing or buffalo. DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT go to stony brook unless you want to be miserable.

Thanks…think I have it narrowed down to Buffalo and Binghamton at this point. I decided to knock out the private schools so I can save money for med school. Any opinions on which is the better of those two?

If your talking medical school you should be thinking Stony Brook.
I got into Albany, Stony Brook, Binghamton, and Buffalo, all four of those university centers- Stony Brook is the school best suited for medicine, and if you roam their website you can see it is an inherently science oriented school. If you don’t choose Stony Brook, your second best option of the latter schools would be Binghamton, for its overall reputation as the premier SUNY school; but again, for medicine, Stony Brook would be better; it even has a medical school on campus for graduate school and obviously the graduate school would show a preference towards its own undergraduate students (which is important when med school admission rates tend to be around 48% only)

A good friend is attending Stony Brook for premed…also, our orthodontist went there for undergrad. Both people absolutely rave about this school. It has a fantastic reputation on the east coast. Good luck and enjoy!!

I dont see where all this hate for stony brook comes from lol my cousin goes there for med school and went there for undergrad to, and she was/is a partier. People keep saying its a commuter school but from what she has told me a lot of kids live on campus and she had a lot of fun. Although now she has a house with like 4 other pre meds in town…
