I’d be willing to bet that it’s even a very high percentage in top 5%…huge priority for UPenn…

Yeah Penn isnt quite wholly numbers dependent, but I’ve notices a strong trend btw high class rank and SAT and acceptance.

I think SAT correlation is in line with peer schools. Class rank, though, seems to be almost abnormally strong.

I think schools generally accept around the same number of people who are not top 10% of their class because they need to extend acceptances certain demographics. For example, school marching bands need tuba players, but no matter how big the school is, the number of tuba players in about the same in each marching band.

However, because Penn is so large, this number, when divided into a huge class, gives a very small percentage.

They don’t take in kids for the marching band. The adcoms have no idea what the band needs. That’s just a little excuse schools have for accepting the senators little girl when there were 15 other applicants that were just as qualified.

are you sure about that BigPappaMuerte? i thought they count percentiles and deciles in the statistic

the link says that only 3 percent of kids in the 2nd decile were accepted haha do you go to a very competitive school (prep school?) and did they have a hook?

Obviously I was not just talking about tuba players. There are other demographics as well, for example athletes, URMs, people interested in majors that need students, brilliant musicians, etc. Every school needs a few of these students.

our band doesn’t recruit

they just scramble

That’s very interesting to know, Ny0rker. By the way, though, what source indicated to you that Penn has the highest percentage of first decile students out of any school?

i simply went on collegeboard.com and other sites and found out the statistics for pretty much the top 20ish colleges… penn was the only one with 99%… harvards was actually lower than a few places

what happens if your school doesnt rank or send rank?
