^Lol, well, I'm not holding it against you or anything ;] The real problem I think was that iacta alea est has to be really misunderstood to make sense in that part of your essay, since Caesar definitely didn't mean that he was just gambling and taking chances with his decisions, lol. Oh well. :]

Thanks for posting that. I consider myself a good (scratch that, I'm awesome) writer, and I probably would have written a really short yet eloquent essay that would have scored lower than yours. Now I'll just get thesaurus happy (only without the thesaurus) and throw together a few pages of whatever.

I just read the essay, and quite frankly, I thought the essay was quite well-written, for a 25-minute assignment. You had a clear thesis, and you came up with good, concrete examples that explicitly supported your thesis. That's what matters. Who cares if you spell something wrong or had a few grammar errors? You can't expect perfection in 25 minutes; all you can really hope for is a good rough draft. You conveyed your point in a good, straightforward, clear manner, which reflects clear thought. Although your last argument was a bit weak.

To me, it's weird that so many people who have posted think it was big words that did it. I didn't notice any words that seemed to stick out as "big."

To me, the essay was alright. I can see how it managed to be receive a 12, though. Read carefully, the sentence structures and word choices don't make sense at all. I don't even really know what point you're trying to make. However, if these readers are spending about 2 minutes on an essay and not stopping to think about the ideas you're trying to convey, your language may come off as "sophisticated." I read it through in about a minute the first time and didn't understand why it wasn't a 12 because it had an overall good impression. The readers probably thought that, too.

yea....the content doesnt make sense to me, either. But I still reguard you as an excellent writer when I saw those sophisticated words and expressions, maybe that's what the grader thinks~ hahagoodjob

Congrats on your 12. Whatever it takes. Any bets on how many times they merely pull a number out of thin air and not read the paper? Come on, it's human nature. Just how many essays can someone read day after day without saying to heck with this. No offense but at the end I was left with nothing but huh?
