a 690 in Japanese with Listening -- too bad?

I was hoping for a 720+, but I ended up with this miserable score. It is the third year I have been learning Japanese.

I took it in November, and really found it easy that I was sure I could get above a 750. But a 690 was what I got at the end.

Does it look too bad? I was advised to not take the test unless I am sure to get a high score.

Any inputs will be appreciated! Thanks!

not bad...
unless you are native speaker or decentent of native speakers(are ur parents native speakers?)

I don't think that's bad at all, especially if you are not a native speaker and you've only been taking it for 3 years. Don't be intimidated by seeing other people with 800s and think your scores are terrible, because they're not. You don't have to be perfect at Japanese to be good...heck, the fact that you took it an achieved what you did is great by itself.

I am relieved! And no, my parents and I are neither native speakers nor descendants. I only take Japanese classes at school.

^it's fine then. I bet your 690 look better than a native speaker with 800

how did you study for it
i take japanese as well
i plan on doing ap next year

can you explain to me what the test consists of?

It consists of 3 parts: Listening, Grammar aka bunpou, and Reading (dokkai). The itself was actually really easy that I was thinking about a perfect score. But it just turned out to be a 690. So be extremely careful!
I take Japanese classes at school, though here in Mongolia we do not have AP courses.

PS: If you know about JLPT (I am sure you do), the test is like between Level 3 and Level 4.
So prepping with Lvl3 materials will be enough.
