A Bering Sea Christmas

A Christmas email from is2day:

well all this will be short, but Merry Christmas! right now I am in the Bering Sea, in the waters of the famous TV show "The Deadliest Catch" and I can see why they call it that. it is snowing so hard that I can barely see the water from the 04 deck window beside me (about 45-60 feet below me).

tomorrow we will be having Christmas day again as we cross the International Date Line. please keep us in your prayers as we will be hitting a hurricane size and force winter storm early tomorrow. average wave size expected to be 13+ meters which means that over 10% of the waves we will see will be 13+ over 100 feet high. it is going to be very rough sailing for the next few days, but such is the life in the Bering. tonight I have been ordered by the captain to secure EVERYTHING in my room. it should look like no one is living there because anything that is left out will be thrown around violently.

this morning when we woke up there were Christmas cards on our door and a huge stocking full of treats on the door knobs, tonight we are having a nice Christmas party and making the most of being out here on this day. hope everything goes well back home!

with that, as the one closest to the north pole from all of you (we're right at about 60 degrees north) I wish you a very Merry Christmas and know that my thoughts are with you all and I love you very much!

love and Merry Christmas to you all!
T

The heavy seas do not sound fun, but it was really nice that they awoke to the stockings and cards. My son is in the middle of the Pacific heading back to LA from China. He bought a satellite calling card from the Captain (at least I think thats what he said) and so he totally surprised us with a phone call Christmas morning (we were a little down because we had not received an e-mail from him). Needless to say it was the best present I (and my husband too) received. He will be in port in LA this weekend and we will get a chance to talk with him again on his cell phone and he hopes to get a chance to send us all the pictures he took. He said they were going to have filet mignon and lobster tails for dinner and that he would he spending the day on his sea project since he did not have to work. It is pretty amazing to think that we could talk to him when he was out in the middle of the ocean. Hope every had a blessed Christmas.
