Good luck to both of you, I hope you get good news.

My daughter got referred to SIX schoolsâŠYAY! Iâm so happy. We know one for sure weâre not pursuing and two of them we need to further research. But her top three choices are on the list. She is so excited! Now we have to schedule visits and interviews.

Congratualtions! Good Luck with everything!

I am so happy for you !! Congratulation =) SIX schools are a lotâŠI wish my top 3 would be on my list when they would refer me. I got an 81% on my SSAT and English is not my first language. I hope I get referred with this score. When you get referred does that mean that you will get into 1 of those schools for sure?

Hey Lindha ~ we were told referral does not guarantee placement. However, going by statistics on ABCâs website, about 82% of referrals get into a school. Not bad odds. My daughter scored really low on math and still got referred. But these are local day schools and the program director said that the scores arenât as important for middle school as they are for high school. I think your scores will be fine. When do you find out if you get referred?

My son also just got referred to six schools (all day schools) through ABC. Seems thatâs probably the maximum they refer to.

I think my interviewer told me I would know what schools I got referred by mid-January. It seems like a longtime to me. I just wonder if I could get in H, A, D, Groton, MPS with my score. I am just so anxious

Congratâs to all who have been referred so far. Lindha are you planning to apply to schools directly in case you are not referred to your top choices?

I never heard of that, too late for me :(

but great job to the people who have been referred! Will you all also apply by yourselves?

That sounds about right Lindha. For the students here applying to boarding school, they donât find out until mid-January as well. I guess itâs a different process for boarding schools than day schools.

I think maybe 6 is the maximum number. That is fine with me since it is a big project scheduling all of the visits, interviews, testing/assessment dates, etc. I have to arrange to use a lot of PTO in Jan. and Feb. to get all of this done. I think we are only going to pursue four of the six because two are really far from us and not convenient for drop off/pick up due to my work commute.

We are not applying to any schools outside of our referrals because she was referred to all of the schools she was interested in. Plus I know that if she wasnât referred, she probably wouldnât get accepted independently either. If we were applying to more than six or to boarding schools, we would consider applying independently as well.

I wanted to apply by myself, but then I think what if they referred me to the schools I am interested on and have already done interviews. If I apply by myself, then I would have to go through the application process all over again. Moreover, ask my teachers and counselor for recommendations. My recommendations for ABC were AWESOME!! So I want ABC to refer me and send those AWESOME recommendations to the schools they would refer me because I know if my teachers and counselor write me recommendations now, it wonât be as awesome ask my first one. I HOPE that makes SENSE!!

Ah I get it. My math teacher was freaking out becuase she got 100 recommendation requests while I was taking a quiz that I missed for absense. She started yelling to her papers, and it was really scary!

Lindha-it makes sense, but it carries significant risk. Worst case, you are not accepted by ABC and by the time you find out the application deadline for many of the schools will have passed. If you are accepted, you may not be referred to the schools you are most interested in, my d was only interested in two of the schools she was referred to. Further, just using my d as an example, she had SSAT scores in the 90âs, all Aâs, excellent recommendations, but of the six boarding schools she was referred to by ABC she was accepted to only two, (one of which is considered by most a lower tier school, the other a HADES school) wait listed at three and not accepted at one. As I have stated before her acceptances to schools she applied to directly were much higher (and she would have been happy attending any one of the schools she applied to directly). Also, do a search for Dazzle in this forum. She was initially disappointed with her results with ABC acceptances two years ago (but she ended up at a fantastic school and her last report was really positive) because she was wait listed at most of her schools, including Deerfield and SPS, canât remember the others. ABC is trying to place hundreds of students, they will not advocate for you at four top tier schools, because they know you can only attend one school. The last few weeks of the process you will be asked what are your top three choices or what is your top choice and they will work hard to ensure you are accepted at one of your top three choices, but probably not all three of your top choices, especially if they are three top tier schools.

I think completing the schools application, visiting, if you can, and interviewing with the schools, plus an ABC referral strengthens your application. It shows a genuine interest on your part in the school, instead of just a referral by ABC to a school you may or may not be interested in. Also, by completing the schools application they learn a lot more about you. The ABC questions are not specific to any school, so you may not convey to a particular school how you would be a good fit at that school. If your main concern is burdening your teacher with recommendations, use the common recommendation form. They will have to complete it once and make copies. Let them know that this is the last set of recommendations you will need from them. Most teachers are understanding and willing to assist you.

So this is my long two cents. Good luck, you seem like a strong applicant, just hope you are aware of the risks of relying solely on ABC.

Looks like itâs a program mainly for African & Hispanic Americans? Why arenât there more Asian Americans participating, considering a huge number of Asian Americans apply and end up in prep schools each year?

lindha - do you have your motherâs blessing for BS yet? The last I remember, you were planning on tricking her into signing the forms.

A Better Chance provides scholarships to students and most asians donât need the money to apply for BS.

Yaa I do have my motherâs blessing she was even the one helping me with my applications. I just talked to her and she understood. I think I would use the TABS application but I need to look up what schools accepts those applications. Thxss guyss that was a lot of help!!
âmost asians donât need the money to apply for BS.â there is a lot of poor asians out there as well.

Oh is that what itâs about? I didnât get that from the quick review of their website. Thanks.

ohhh it makes sense now because I was like 6% is so low for asians when there is a lot of them whom get into ABC.

What do you mean by âa lot of them whom get into ABCâ?
