A better chance!!

ABC does not provide tuition scholarships for students to attend boarding school. ABC is not a need based program, it is a recruiting program, and students of color of any income level can be accepted. Most Asians probably do not know about the program and I am guessing that in the schools and areas where ABC does most of its work there are not a lot of Asians. The ABC schools agree to meet the finanical need of the accepted students, based on the family PFS. This confused me last year because people on this board insisted they provided scholarships to students, but they do not. ABC sponsors summer programs for its scholars, including orientation programs for students entering boarding school and college tours.

I guess when most people think of colored, they associate it with hispanic/black as opposed to any hue of Asian. This is true most of the time, too. Regarding ABC, I don’t know.

I think this might be off topic but I had 2 phone interviews out of the 6 interviews I’ve done. Do someone think a person could get accepted in a school when you did a phone interview?

@MsHopeful what is PTO? Before you D received her referred schools, did ABC call you to ask for her top schools?

It is already January and I cannot wait to hear from them.

Hey Lindha…nice to hear from you. You must be getting nervous and impatient waiting for your referrals from ABC!

PTO = Paid Time Off. Since I work full time and have a long commute, I have to use a lot of my PTO to get my daughter to all of her visits and interviews and such. I don’t mind, and I let my supervisor know, so it should be fine.

We are attending an open house this week. Next week I am attending a tour and a party some of the parents are having at their house to give us information about the school from the parents perspective.

Good luck…please post back and let us know where you were referred.

I am also waiting for my referrals, I have received some, but the coordinator in my area says there are more to come in January, when they have a meeting in NY. So far I have been referred to two schools, and she said I should be getting 2 to 3 more, So i am excited :)

what are the 2 schools u got referred to?
what was ur SSAT score?
did u do ur interview at the Dalton School?

Good luck Sandakm. Let us know how everything goes.

Schools- The Webb School
and the Darlington Schools

SSAT: I forgot, but when I get the paper, I shall post. I am still waiting for the new referrals.

@MSHopeful Thanks!

There is really good chance you might get in those schools, because Thw webb acceptance rate is in the 50’s% and Darlington acceptance rate is 70%.

Yea, I feel like I have a good chance with Webb, I am not looking on going to Darlington, but I am truly looking to get referred to Andover, Lawrenceville, or Exeter. I have some connections to some so hopefully. Do you know anything about Andover?

I don’t know a lot about it. I had an interview for it already. It is a really big school in the city. I believe it is near Boston. It is basically a little like Exeter. The acceptance rate is very low with a high SSAT score.

I am an ABC Scholar!! I am so happy, but I don’t know what schools I got referred to yet. They said it will come shortly. I hope I get referred to the top schools.

That’s awesome Lindha…congrats! Did you also apply for financial aid?

I just got my EFC back from SSS and it is the perfect amount. It is lower than what I pay now for my daughter’s private christian school, but a bit higher than what I said I could afford. If the five schools she is applying to (we decided to not apply to one, she was referred to six) base our financial aid on the SSS number, we’re looking at 80% or more financial aid. YAY.

sounds like things are progressing for both of you! Lindha, good luck in getting your referrals.

I got referred to
choate Rosemary Hall
Deerfield Academy
The Hill School
The Hotchkiss School
The Loomis Chaffee School
The Mercersburg Academy

HAppy!!

Congrat’s Lindha and wishing you the best on March 10.

That’s fantastic Lindha. Were those the schools you were expecting/hoping for?

thxss guys!!
the schools I am hoping to get in are Deerfield Academy, The Hotchkiss school and Choate Rosemary Hall!!

I received a phone call from ABC asking me to rank my schools…Why do they want to know that?
