A bit Deluded here - Chances

I was wondering what my chances would be for these schools.. I know my gpas are low but my transcripts indicate an upward trend from a 2.6 in ninth to a 3.8(w) in 11th
My overall, however, isn't quite impressive.... its actually pretty low. 3.3(w) and a 3.088 (UW)...kind of regret being so lazy BUT Too late for that...
My Sat scores aren't impressive either... I 'm planning to take the new one on Nov 5 and i still haven't gotten my SAT II scores yet but I'm pretty sure i did fairly well. For the old sats-1150
Also in the gifted program due to my scores on the standardized tests
Also my CS calculated GPA is 3.2 and UC-3.3

Also got some reward.. GSE Math Recognition in Ninth Grade

Deluded because of my picks for the two schools I really want to attend- UC Davis and Irvine. I heard its more competitive now- Am I even within reach of those two schools?

Ugh do NOT under any circumstances mention the Anime club and Dungeons and Dragons club in your essays or application.

You should post your AP exam scores. And you should really retake your SATs. You need a higher score to compensate for your somewhat low gpa. Your ec's look pretty impressive, be sure to have something interesting to talk about them. I think you have a shot at UCSC. UCD and UCI are a bit of reaches unless you can pull up your SAT score.

Do you know what are my chances for the Cal states?
Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it :D

OrangeCapuchin:

UCI/UCD: Reach
UCSC: Slight Reach

Thank you :D Oh i have two more questions.. What is reach exactly? like 50/50 Percent chance i might get in if i apply? Or less? or more? Also.. um.. For the Cs'es... specifically cal poly Slo.. would i be able to get in if i put down that i want to major in Microbiology?

B u m p
WEE

a reach is like a 20 percent chance of getting in

Thanks :D but um...
how bout the Cal States?

Microbio is one of the more slective majors at SLO. It's probably a reach for that school.

SLO- reach
Pomona- safe-Match
SDSU- Match

Not sure about the others...

Hm.. if i were to change it to one of the more obscure majors would i have a better chance of getting in? Is Microbio major as selective as the engineering majors? Oh and if i were to apply as ED would that better my chances at getting accepted?

If you were to change it to an agriculture major, you would have amuch better chance. The avg. SAT for science and math is about 1260. The avg. for engineers is about 1280. They both have around 3.9 gpa's. Agriculture, on the other hand, has average SAT's around 1100. But, if you don't want to be an aggie, don't do it.

I recieved my Act Scores today and it was slightly better than my sat score- I got a 26
26 English...
23 math..
29 Reading
25 Science....
How bout psychology at Slo? is that as impacted a major as microbio and engineering? OH! i put my 2nd choice as economics would that change anything?

Thankyou for your help :D

oh yeah.. i forgot um.. i got my sat II subject scores today
U.S. 510
Bio-Ecological- 640
-for UCs

B u m p B u m p

Liberal arts(psychology) also is pretty tough to get into. It has slightly lower SAT's but a rather high weighted gpa.

Thanks again you've been a great help :D
