A bit of essay help please?

"Rutgers University is a vibrant community of people with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. How would you benefit from and contribute to such an environment?"

Has anyone written an essay with this kind of question before? I'm a little confused as to what exactly this is asking for, and I am really unsure of how to start out without sounding like a cliche ambitious child with a lot of dreams / having my writing style appear undeveloped and/or is just a paraphrased list of stuff I'm involved in. I'm used to writing applications where we can start off with a certain experience in life, but it doesn't exactly look like that kind of style can apply here. Or maybe it does, I'm completely new to writing application essays...It would probably be much easier once I get the intro going, but I'm not sure how to start this without diverting away too much from the essay's question.

zenon, seems like they want you to write about diversity, maybe you have an experience or something in your personal history that you can write about to reflect on diversity and then relate that to how you would contribute to/benefit from diversity at Rutgers.

Think about: why is diversity a good thing? How will a diverse environment be beneficial to your growth as a student and as a member of society? How can you contribute to this environment with your own experiences?
