A Canadian's chances across the border

I'm a white male just starting senior year at a high school in Canada. I've wanted to go to university in America ever since elementary school, so I've been trying to maintain focus (it's much simpler to apply/get in to university out here) through out high school. Now I'm just wondering about my chances...

Academic:
*GPA: *
Grade 9 - 3.0
Grade 10 - 3.0
Grade 11 - 3.7
Grade 12 - (estimated) 3.8

Scholarships / General Awards:
[ul]Received a Passport to Education (only $250) for exemplary grades[/ul]

*** My school does not rank. ***

SAT: 1870
730 CR
460 Math
680 Writing

Relevant Courses:
Spanish (9 - 11) -- My school only has one Grade 12 block of Spanish, and it is in conflict with my sciences.
Math (9 - 11)
Film & TV (11 - 12)
English Honours 11
English Honours 12
Literature 12 AP
Acting (9 - 11)
Theatre Directing (11 - 12)
History Honours 12
Earth Sciences (11 - 12)
Geography

Supplemental Materials:
Any essays should be pretty good
Good Recommendations from AP English Teacher and Head of the Theatre Department ... I don't really have a relationship with my GC (they aren't used as much in Canada)

Extra Curriculars:
*Work/Volunteering: *
[ul][]Movie Theatre (12 hrs/week, 1.5 years)

[li]Website was featured in the monthly 'Net.Now' column of The Magazine, sold all across Canada.[/ul]
[/li]

*Film/Theatre:

[li]Co-created, co-wrote, co-directed and co-starred in EMTV, my school's official weekly television show.[/ul]
[/li]

Ok, so now that that's all out of the way, here are the universities I was looking at:

What are my chances?
[ul][]USC (film)
[]FSU (film)
[]NYU (journalism)
[]Chapman (film)
[]LMU (film)
[]Syracuse (journalism)
[]Ohio (journalism)
[]Emerson (film)
[]BU (journalism)
[]Miami (journalism)[/ul]

And if there are any other universities you can think of with a good match program for me, let me know about that too!

Thanks a lot!

For FSU at least you'll need to re-take the SAT and get the math and English parts above 1200. The FSU Film School is beastly hard to get into...I would recommend contacting them directly to have a proper assessment made of your chances.

Basically, if you have the talent they want in a freshman you're in (assuming appropriate other credentials). Otherwise, not.

Here's the link: http://www.film.fsu.edu/

Yeah, I keep hearing how selective FSU film school is. Thanks for the link... I've been there before, but it doesn't hurt to look again. Although I think they'll find a new minimum SAT score based on the new SAT, won't they? And even if they don't, my math + cr is 1190, which is so close... I really hope they aren't that particular :(

Your CR and writing scores are great, but your Math is horrible and could practically deny you admissions. Retake it, improve your math score, and you will be a very strong candidate for your colleges of choice. As of now, I'd say your chances are borderline.

hey im from vancouver too!!! (hoping to go to pirnceton..or so.) am i aiming to highhh? lol..

If you can come across with the skills they want, it may not matter - as in a skilled athlete with academic concerns, for example. But I suspect that 1200 is a gate by which many are screened out.

I'd make a personal contact and be prepared to provide samples of your film work. The fact you're OOS could make it more difficult, unless you're the new Dan Aykroyd and can convince them of this.

In the meantime, get the math score up. FSU'll take the best combination of scores (at least they used to).

i'm in vancouver too..

SAT Subject Tests?

Your SAT isn't competitive enough but your EC are good, retake the SAT

Yeah, I'm going to get some math tutoring and retake again in October. Are the SAT IIs really necessary? I'm not sure if I'd excel at any of them (US History and all that)

well i know USC requires them so you have to look which schools require them and get to studying
