what are my chances? :( help a confused canadian

<p>so, i am a canadian citizen living in the us (my dad has a work visa) -___-
i moved to the us in grade 9 so i've attended all 4 years of high school here</p>

<p>anyways, i'm really getting stressed out about college applications (i'm a junior btw). i keep getting letters from nyu/stanford/columbia/etc. and it's giving me false hope haha =<em>=
i just feel like i won't get anywhere because in my freshman year i was clueless about the american education system, so i ended up taking some advanced courses and also keyboarding (i was told it was a technology credit by my counselor----well apparently it's NOT =</em>_=)</p>

<p>anyways,
my class rank is 28/601 students, top 5%, hoping to get it a bit higher by senior year though :(
sat I: 2040 first time...i'm aiming for 2200ish though
gpa: 3.38 (oooooommmmgggg this is so bad)
i took world history ap and made a 4 on the ap test last year
this year i am taking art 2d ap, english ap, and psychology ap (us hist ap was full in the beginning of the school year so i couldn't change my schedule, now the classes are half empty =__=)
next year i will take all ap's but even then i don't think my gpa will get much higher</p>

<p>extracurriculars
english honour society
-historian this year
-president for senior year (it's already decided lol)
french national honour society
national honour society
youth expanding services (community service)
interact (community service)
psychology club</p>

<p>i'm running for officer positions for all of them this year, i'm pretty sure i can get a spot in most of the clubs because i'm friends with the officers (sadly thats how the clubs at my school nominate officers >___>)</p>

<p>other:
i'm in a youth humanitarian organization outside of school, the sponsors write really great letters of recommendation
won academic excellence award for the past 3 years
piano for 10 years
- won some awards but i lost the certificates moving so i guess there is no proof! :(</p>

<p>-----my questions-----
-does being an international student give you a greater chance of getting into a higher ranked university (even though you attended high school in the states)?
-i'm an automatic in for university of texas at austin because i'm in-state and higher than top 8%. could i get into a higher ranked school though? i don't like living in texas at all so this is my last option
-what schools do i have a chance at going to (higher ranked than ut). i was hoping for somewhere in california or nyu/michigan/etc. but i don't know if i'm good enough for any</p>

<p>any advice? what do you think?
i just want to get a general idea of where i am right now
my parents don't understand the american education system so i've been figuring out stuff on my own for a while, but i still don't really know what's going on!! :(</p>

<p>thanks!</p>
