What is the a cappella scene like at Cornell? I know there are lots of groups, but do they have a big presence on campus? Are concerts well attended?

Which groups would you consider "the best?" I'd prefer to sing in a co-ed group, but I'd like to see what there is in the way of all male a cappella, too.

Thanks a lot!

The a cappella scene at Cornell is huge. They have a pretty large presence on campus, and concerts are very well attended.

Opinion: in terms of co-ed groups, The Chordials are arguably the best, but sometimes come off as a little angry. The Class Notes are great, too. All-male a cappella seems to have a much larger following than co-ed a cappella, though. Last Call is my favorite, but The Hangovers are great as well (though you have to join the Glee Club to audition for The Hangovers, as they’re the a cappella subset)–I have really close friends in both groups and adore both groups of guys. Cayuga’s Waiters is the other all-male group and they have a pretty large following within the Greek community, but in terms of musicality, they’re usually viewed as less technically advanced.

Good luck auditioning! A cappella at Cornell is a great thing to get involved in. :)

Thanks a lot! Could you just clarify what you meant by the Chordials being slightly “angry?” I’m not entirely sure what you meant. =P

What group would you consider the best blend of fun and musical aptitude?
