Recently I have realized that programming isn't really what I want to do with the rest of my life. I am very interested in computers and even programming, but I couldn't see working with either as a career. I want something hands on where I will be useful for something. The other day after class, a teacher of mine got me thinking. She said that I should consider going to college for medecine and to become a doctor. What are some tings I should consider? It's a big change from computer engineering to majoring in a different science and going to medical school. Thanks for your input.

Doctors probably make a lot more money, but they work long hours and have to be on call all the time... doctors have to go through 4 years of college, 4 years of med school, and then intern/work under an experienced doctor. Lots of emotional stress, and if you become a surgeon or something, people can sue you for errors you make. However, a doctor's job is ever-changing and you'll always have something new to work with

everyone tells me to major in comp eng, but ive decided to do eng mechanics or something like that

computers suck

cringes at spelling
Are you currently in high school or college? It doesn't matter as much what you major in undergrad, as long as you take the required pre-med courses.

I noticed the spelling mistake after I made the post. I'm not one to make spelling errors. I'm currently in high school, but I am researching options for my future. I realize that there is a lot of hard work involved in becoming a doctor, but I am seriously considering it, but certainly not for the money.
