Hi

I want to make a career in the United Nations , specifically in the United Nations Development Programme.

The idea is to assist developing countries in economic and social growth and work towards better international cooperation , areas of interest include International relations

I am a software engineer with 3 years of work experinece in the Industry

I have a GRE score of 1500 out of 1600 and a TOEFL score where i missed only a couple of questions ( I dont recall the exact score ) and i was in the top 10 % in my University

I plan to get back to School next year for my Masters

Can anyone guide me which school and specifically which major should i opt for. Also how choosing a particular major will help me in my eventual goal

All advise will be highly appreciated

Well first you need connections. Albeit unfair, the statement "95% of success come from connections" is true. If you take a look at the ambassadors, many have connections with Bush (ambassador from France co-owned baseball team with him for 10 years, acted in management for his election, etc). Second, try going to a top-notch university like HYPS for your Masters or PhD. Again it's idiotic, but based on statistics, these type of careers that you're referring to have extremely competitive demand in a pool filled with HYPS graduates, and you need to match up to their level, unless you're the one who came up with microfinancing and the Grameen bank or ... cured cancer.

It may sound idiotic by saying this, but it's true. Focus socially... Talk with professors and meet people that are in high stature.

Have you ever participated in Model UN?

^He's applying for grad school, so Model UN is irrelevant at this point.

I would post this in the Grad School forum.
