We watched it. The scenery was beautiful. That’s about all I can say
After Princess Switch 3, ensure you watch all the A Christmas Prince series. (hahaha!)
I’ve been trying to decide if I wanted to watch this one. I’ve watched a couple recently that I have been disappointed with. However I did re-watch my favorite (and completely ridiculous) Knight Before Christmas with Vanessa Hudgens. I actually enjoy that one. lol
I am 20 minutes in of my 6th attempt; I’ve decided to make it a drinking game. Maybe drinking every time they say Dun DunBar will make the name more palatable
Do give us a report. Did you manage to watch the whole thing?
Alas, I did not; I made it to the beginning of the party scene. I do have a wicked headache this morning though [I.A.S., I don’t actually drink, but I’m thinking the drinking game may be a way to get DH to watch these with me ]
I’m planning on getting my booster this week, didn’t do great with the 2 shots, binged Mare of Easttown after the last one, it was great but not a fun watch when under the weather. Looks like I’ll have some choices now.
@Tigerwife92 You do realize that all the minutes you’ve wasted add up to most of the movie? You must be stopped! I’m going to put you out of your misery and tell you what happens. You will be shocked to hear that Sophie and Myles actually do love each other! She will stay in Scotland, where they will presumably live happily ever after.
Hopefully you are now cured of your obsession and will not attempt to finish the movie. I anticipate your gratitude, so you’re welcome.
I’ve gone down a Hallmark movie rabbit hole this morning and have learned that that the channel makes like 30 of these movies every Christmas! I had no idea. Seems I could start a full time career as a film critic of these types of movies!
I just spit out my coffee
Update; DH said even a drinking game would not get him to watch. Looks like I’m solo again this year for my Hallmark marathon.
As I mentioned earlier, I am a fan of the Hallmark movie genre - Christmas and other seasonal offerings (Valentine’s Day, spring, fall, etc.). I like them for their predictability and have used them as escape from the frustrations of real life in recent years. I give them credit for expanding diversity in the casts, both in terms of race and sexual identity in the last few years. Hallmark has seen this part of their revenue stream expand in recent years while the card business declines. It’s no surprise that Lifetime and Netflix have decided to get on this train as well.
IMO, the key is to record them and watch using the fast forward feature to skip the commercials. You get to watch the movie in an hour & 20 minutes and everybody is happy at the end, unlike real life. Twist the formula for the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel and they always solve the murder in 80 minutes. Nice & tidy before turning in for the night.
I’m pretty impressed that you’ve made this into a science. Seriously, I can’t make time to watch actual good movies, haha.
So last night, as payback for making him watch A Castle for Christmas, my husband made me watch The Power of the Dog (won’t give any plot spoilers.) And as I watched it, I kid you not, I found myself thinking that I would much rather watch A Castle for Christmas again than continue to watch Oscar-winning Benedict Cumberbatch as a completely unbelievable cowboy with a stiff American accent, directed by Oscar-winning Jane Campion, who allowed the cameraman far too many lingering shots of barren hills and waving grass. Jesse Plemmons as the brother was a much better actor. It was really depressing and boring.
Also yesterday, I attempted to watch the Norwegian show Home for Christmas. I am no fan of dubbed film and will always choose subtitles, but I was cooking dinner so that I could listen at the same time. My Grinchy daughter spoiled my fun though by insisting we watch it with subtitles. Needless to say, reading is impossible when cooking and I had to give up and put on my usual food prep show, which is currently Say Yes to the Dress.
My Christmas mood needs to be restored pronto! Waiting for my son to come home so we can all watch A Christmas Story for the 900th time.
Netflix has a new Christmas movie about a mom setting up her gay son on a blind date. Called Single all the way. I enjoyed it and Love Hard (which actually had some decent writing I thought).
But true to Hallmark-esque fashion, both take place in the northeast (one in New Hampshire and the other Lake Placid) and both have main characters finally seeing what everyone else sees and that they are perfect for each other.
Collegekid 1 took leave from her job in London to work on a political campaign in the autumn in NH (last election cycle). She left the office on Friday & reported for work on the Monday. The population of the town in NH was smaller than the population of her office building in London. She (and we) tormented her still-London based bf:
who noted ruefully “and she’s in New England, that’s where it always happens too…”
(spoiler: she stuck with the guy in the suit & they are getting married next summer)
I did enjoy My Dad’s Christmas Date and Love Hard.
So… kind of a prequel for a modern day version Downton Abbey, no?
Guy with a title needs an Gal with Money because he’s land/title rich and cash poor.
Yes, but this movie was the budget version.
Hallmark 5-10 years ago was much better. Unfortunately, the bean counters took over and turned it into total garbage.
Watched the movie yesterday. It’s as frivolous as suggested.
But seeing the lead Brooke Shields as a mature woman, who seems to be thin but an appropriate weight for her age was priceless.
I watched the movie today. Only thing that really bothered me was Brooke’s makeup, which I thought was excessive in current times. But, maybe I am out of touch.
Agree. And I also didn’t like her matchy matchy outfits and especially her ridiculously impractical shoes.
