Talk about a toxic relationship…
@Glassharmonica maybe you can write an article about this! An amazing tale.
That story is absolutely horrible. She not only pretended to be him and wrote emails turning down full ride college offers, she created fake email accounts and pretended to be the colleges and sent him rejection letters. I don’t understand why there aren’t fraud charges against her. I hope they garnish her wages.
I’m no lawyer, but I was wondering about criminal charges also. In terms of paying the damages, it’s not like she’s likely to have much of a music career at this point. I think every musician in the country must know about it by now. It’s gone viral in the music student world, and elsewhere I’m sure.
It’s such a stunning betrayal. The case is in Canada–I don’t know much about the laws there, but one has to wonder about criminal charges.
This story has been reported in the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Boston Globe, the BBC and likely many other media. It will be hard for her to get a job anywhere that would ever allow her to pay off that settlement.
This has been circulating on the musician boards for a couple of weeks.
It’s cautionary in another way too: the two had been dating for only a couple of weeks, moved in together right away and he shared his passwords for everything with her! Yes, she was manipulative and dishonest but he was overeager and stupid. A general mess overall.
Sounds like a good movie plot.
I would say this dynamic happened to occur with a music student but could happen for many people in many different areas of study or work.
So true, compmom!
