A controversial essay??

I was wondering what is considered a controversial SAT essay and would greatly appreciate feedback on this. This is partly for my knowledge and also for a friend of mine who is quite stressed about his May SAT essay. This is because I think in the prompt regarding differentiating oneself from other people (along those lines), he one of his two examples was Hitler and his aggressive (as opposed to passive German politicians) nature which resulted in some foreign policy success. Is what he written frowned upon (because hes used Hitler as an example for a topic which revolves around success)? and also what is a controversial SAT essay in general?

I’m not sure about the answer to your question, but I’ve heard that people should try to avoid using Hitler just because it’s kind of cliche and “trite.” Maybe that itself would hurt?

He said that he was able to substantiate his argument properly since he was a history student. But he’s only worried about the perception that the readers will have of the essay considering he used such a negative figure for a relatively positive topic. But he also said that his first example was good. In a nutshell, he feels that as an essay, his essay was pretty good but he’s only worried that he’ll be marked down because the readers wont like to Hitler and anything related to success. Do you thatll happen?? Even if he’s only talked about Hitler’s foreign policy/ specific military success? Also, in his conclusion, he made some general statements about successful individuals which he fears unintentionally encompasses a person like Hitler - will that be considered controversial? And hence marked down?
