I'm starting my grad applications and I've already run into two issues. The first is that I don't know what grading scale to use when calculating my major GPA; do I use the scale that my undergrad uses (A = 4.0, A+ = 4.0), or the one that some other schools use (A = 4.0, A+ = 4.2)? Do I have to find out for each individual school?

Also, I just took the biochem GRE yesterday and I'm taking the chem GRE on November 12. Should I submit my applications now before I know my scores? It'll probably be past deadline when I find out my chem score anyway. Should I wait until week or so before the submission deadline to find out my biochem score or submit my applications soon?

Unless you are explicitly instructed otherwise, use the scale that your undergraduate college uses. Anything else can be portrayed as resume padding or academic dishonesty.

Will your scores affect where you apply or your application strategy? If not, it’s safer to submit the application sooner rather than later.
