I'm in my third year, double-majoring in Chemistry and Biochemistry, and I'm planning on applying to grad schools next year either for chem/biochem (haven't decided which one yet, but I'm leaning toward biochem). I was wondering if anyone here knows what chem/biochem programs are looking for in their applicants. I know undergraduate research experience is important, but, for instance, how important would my scores on the regular GRE and the Chem GRE be? Also, does it matter at all if I'm not really involved in clubs or anything like that at school? I am a varsity athlete though, and I've been doing research during the school year and during the summer.

I'm also concerned about my GPA. Right now, I have a 3.5 overall but my major GPA is only around 3.2 due to a couple of bad grades. I'll probably be able to raise my GPA this year, and I'm planning on taking graduate level courses next year.

And I'm thinking of applying to Caltech, UC Berkeley, Stanford, UCSF, UCLA, Scripps Research Institute, and maybe a few other top programs outside California.
