A curious postcard from Stanford.....

I usually stay on the Dartmouth board (at least ever since I recieved a likely letter from them) but today I come to this board in search of opinions.

I am a black male from an inner-city school.

Today I recieved a curious postcard from Stanford that says THINK STANFORD dozens of times on one side and on the other side it says to think about .....

Interning with the Congression Black Caucus through Stanford-in-Washington

Researching at the National Human Genome Center at Howard University through the HBCU Exchange

Engaging prominent Black Alumni through " A Life After Stanford" lecture series.

The postcard continues with a list of activities that are supposed to be appealing to a prospective Black student like myself. Did any other minorities on this site recieve a similar email? Maybe one for Latinos? Native Americans?
I know I'm not the only one who got one.

P.S.
Don't expect a quick reply from me because I am about to get offline to do some work but I will be back to this board in six hours or so. Around 10PM Pacific Time.

obviously i'm not as exceptional as you lol :p it's not usually anything special, usually just based on info they got from you from sat, psat, act, stuff like that. Though congrats for your exceptional achievements

i recieved a postcard that said the same thing...i applied to stanford regular decision...celebrian are you suggesting that they send that card to all AA who score high on SATs (1300+) or could it share some significance in regard to my application????

I was thinking it was probably one of those really general things they send to you if you're above a certain score, but I could easily be wrong.

My son has received two postcards during this regular decision process that refer to Stanford opportunities he might be interested in. We hope this means positive things for his acceptance, otherwise it is a cruel practice of getting an applicant's hopes up.

I got a postcard today that was labeled "Opportunities and Resources for Black Student at Stanford University." I really do hope its a good sign. It does seem sort fo weird though that they send these to applicants after they apply so it might end up being an early indicator that we are competitive applicants who will be admitted. Im crossing my fingers that it is true.

oh wow thats weird. Stanford just sent me the same exact postcard again today.

They just want to make sure you get it.

bump bump bump............

What does bump bump bump mean? Ditto?

its just a way to bring it to the top of the page so people can look at it. I also want people to comment on it. Does this say anything about our chances????

Luckies :) It sounds to me like a postcard they send to likely URMs. I can't imagine they would go to the difficulty of sending the postcards if they thought your chances were poor. I mean, what's the point of "thinking Stanford" if you have been rejected?

Who knows, adcoms work in mysterious ways.

I wonder if my postcard means the same as the ones you other guys got???

I want MORE OPINIONS!!! You don't have to be a minority! Any current Stanford students: Ask your fellow black Stanford peers and ask if they ever recieved a similar letter! Let's go!!!!!

any other thoughts on this??????

Haha, I don't think so. I got one and I didn't even send in an RD application (I filled out Part I, but never sent an app fee and never did Part II). Kinda weird. I got it a couple of weeks ago, and I was accepted ED elsewhere way back in Dec. Hmmm. Sorry :(

aw man that sux....

Damn, Damn, Damn!!!!

Dont worry about it guys, Im sure we will all get in anyway. We also all have great backups - Mine is Different and I are into Duke which is amazing and King and I are into Dartmouth which is equally great. We should cross our fingers but I think we all have a good shot. Good luck!!!!!!!

Yeah, good luck, y'all. Judging from the looks of things, you don't need some postcard to tell you you got in. Wherever you're at, you'll be at a great school, I'm sure. Best of luck :)

Dang, Stanford is beautiful. le sigh.
