I think I might have a day or two in the LA or Claremont area before move-in day. Where should I stay - LA or Claremont? What is there to do in each one of them with only one day's time?

Claremont is a cute little town and that’s about it. You can mozy around and eat frozen yogurt, go to a decent restaurant, shop-- you’re probably too young to go to a bar (otherwise I’d recommend Heros)-- but if you have a car you can drive to the Mt. Baldy parking area and do some really nice hiking.

LA is LA-- Getty Museum, Hollywood Blvd., Dodgers, Universal Studios, beaches, etc. You can do more than one thing in one day, but you’re going to need a car for that too. I love LA (I’m from NYC) and I love the big, wide highways with nice long entry and exit ramps, and LA people drive with relative courtesy considering it’s a big city-- but other than saturday or sunday morning traffic can be even worse than here in the Big Apple.

also, if you go to LA, for something different, consider visiting the Museum of Death. Very kitschy and off-beat, and a bit creepy, if that kind of thing interests you. I think it’s on Hollywood Blvd, a little off the main drag. There some Kenneth Anger connection with the MoD as well, in case you’re familiar with Kenneth Anger’s films.
