I am an int from Turkey. Last year I applied to TASP and got rejected (surprisingly). The five or six long essays in the middle of the year were really exhausting so I just didn't bother to apply any place else. This year (at the end of my junior year) I want to attend some decent summer program that can have a positive effect overall.

My stats are as follows:
GPA: around 94/100
SAT I: 1520 (720V 800M)
SAT II: Math IIC 800, Chemistry 800, Writing 670 (I tried this again on January 22, hope to get something better)
AP: Chemistry 5
also heaviest possible courseload and my high school is the best in Turkey, known among US colleges, every year people are getting accepted to HYPS almost two-three students each.
I am closer to engineering or CS majors.

Anyone who attended such a summer program and happy with the experience or just knows about some place, I'm open to suggestions. This summer program business is really a problem; there are many of them yet only some of them are really worth going.

twking, thanks for the suggestion. I immediately went to the website but I guess it is not on yet, not much info there.. Does Johns Hopkins have technical, engineering kind of courses anyway? My idea of JH was that it is a more social studies, language studies type school.. A literature lover friend of mine went there.

cowgirlatheart, the PSYL seems great, but it is not really what I look for. At the end of junior year, I'm kind of over with the leadership, world leader kind of programs. I need something with real, concrete college courses with credits and stuff, particularly engineering or CS courses. Also I really need to know how college life is really like, because some people are really happy, and some people are really miserable there (I think it is about socializing as an int student).

Anyway, I am currently focused on Stanford. It is like the definition of summer program for me, but it is really expensive and no aid for ints. Dunno what to do at the moment..

The RSI seems like the engineering version of TASP. Oh my God, they are really depressing.. 60-70 people or smth each year, getting into MIT is easier. Still I guess I might give it a try if I can find the time (I think I am really challenging myself applying TASP last year RSI this year)

Quote from RSI website:
"Students selected for RSI will have demonstrated superior achievement in math, the sciences and verbal arts."

That's cool too!
Still, PSYL was the best summer of my life. Actually.
But yeah, I live in Canada so I don't need research programs or anything to get into the university I want (not to mention I'm probably going into poli sci). It's all good....

Try the Cornell Engineering summer course. I hear it is great and a large number of participants get into Cornell. Otherwise, demonstrate your leadership by doing something interesting in your own country.

Avalanche, you applied to TASP during your sophomore year? You do realise it's a program for rising seniors (so applicants are in their junior year).

Anyway, vampiro, TASP (Telluride Association Summer Program) is a six-week long humanities based summer program. One rough analogy is:

science/math :: RSI
humanities :: TASP

Applicants write a bunch of essays, some are selected for interviews, and about half of the interviewed qualify and get to take part in one of five seminars. Go to the Telluride Association website for more info. There are also several large threads on TASP within CC's High School Life forum.
