Ok, my physics teacher nominated me for the United States Achievement Academy National Science Award two months ago. I turned in the student biography form for publication in the yearbook, opted to buy a yearbook (not required though), and sent a scholarship application shortly after.
Today, I received another letter from the academy informing me that I was "selected" as an All-American Scholar Award Winner. Now I have to go through the entire process again of sending the biography form and waiting for the scholarship application to arrive (although this time I am not buying another yearbook).
How legitimate and prestigious is this award? Is this one of those random mercenary scams targeting innocent students? It doesn't seem so, since it does not require any sort of compulsory payments as other scams do. Additionally, the founder of this institution - Dr. George A. Stevens - seems to be an honest, altruistic guy...I don't know, anyone?

sounds like a scam...but im a little too suspicious

Someone Else on this board asked that a while ago. It looks like a scam. Funny thing is that the post was posted almost exactly 1 year ago (4-10-05).
