A 'different' sort of ranking

Ok, this has a chance of getting deleted because of its language, but I thought it was pretty funny: Americas Most Annoying LAC (basically the most 'out there' schools)

<a href="http://gawker.com/news/rankings/help-us-pick-americas-most-annoying-liberal-arts-college-280270.php%5B/url%5D">http://gawker.com/news/rankings/help-us-pick-americas-most-annoying-liberal-arts-college-280270.php</a></p>

Funny in an "inside joke" kind of way. Most of these LACs are so unfamiliar to those of us on the West Coast that I'm mostly amused because the commentators are so snarky and not because I really "get" what they're going on about. But joining in the spirit: Most annoying LAC(s) are those that favor photographic depictions of their students dancing around anything that looks like a May pole. Cringe-worthy, imo. In the same vein, I remember a photo in USNWR of students at a highly ranked LAC dancing outdoors in costumes that mostly resembled pajamas with strands of gauze attached. I could see that being annoying.

I really like it when people talk about LACs, and Duke, and fill-in-the-blank-school-that's-not-an-Ivy as being filled with lame Ivy rejects....
Because all of those people totally went to HYP, right? Isn't that what HYP students/grads do, post online about how all LAC students are Ivy rejects, right? I know that that's what my parents do with their Princeton degrees....post online about how much Swarthmore or Amherst or wherever sucks and is just for Ivy rejects.

Seriously, I get why people find LACs somewhat annoying, because some people just disdain the fact that there are people who honestly like to learn about something that's not 100% "practical", and they are very expensive, and the students can be self-righteous...but it's really not that odious. People who hate LACs are every bit as self-righteous about that as your worst stereotypical LAC crunchy-granola student is about Darfur or animal rights or whatever. Last year, the open question on the AP Eng Lang exam asked about the role of the media and internet in today's culture, and almost every time I read a blog, I'm reminded of my response: while I support everyone's right to say what they wish, I also stick to my conviction that not everyone has a valid opinion!

I liked that article! Reading the comments under the article from other readers was amusing.
