I am starting this thread as a bit of an offshoot of the "buying a lottery ticket" thread. This is anecdotal, but I was wondering how many other parents on this board have a similar experience. My HS senior was born in 1987 and throughout her school career it seemed that her year had considerably more students than the year before or the year after. Her small private high school graduating class has about 95 which is around 20 more than they have ever had and almost twice that of the junior class. We have lived in a few different towns in MA and this has been true in all of them. If this is accurate for the 2005 high grads, then this certainly will make this years college admission process highly competitive. Just curious if you all have a similar experience.

In S' small hs, it is the class of 2006 that is the "big bump" in size and a couple of others coming down the line. I think the "statistician" types on this forum have commented that it will get worse over the next few years.

In S' school, the big bump has always been a year behind (Class of '08). The Freshman class this year is more than double the size of the sophomore class, and it's not like the area has been suddenly booming.

nationally, the demographic peak for HS grads is supposed to be ~2009, but each state is (obviously) different.

My D is graduating this year and there is 250 students in her class. My S is graduating in 2008 and there are 350 kids in his class.

Yeah, our 1990 kids are going to be even worse off in the "lottery." That's the peak of the baby boomlet nationally. (And locally in our town, as well.)
