"a few details" - length of responses?

for the questions like favorite book, favorite movie, favorite word, etc.
are most of you just answering the question, or are you also including explanations/commentary.

i looked on a few other CC threads and some people's answers were like "FAVORITE BOOK: Harry Potter" and others were like "FAVORITE BOOK: Harry Potter - I love the quirky characters, beautiful writing, and imaginative concept! I love to curl up at night with a great HP book and read until I fall asleep!!"

the really small blanks on the commonapp website would suggest that they're looking for short/concise answers, but then when you look @ print-preview, there's actually a lot of room available for each answer.

what do you all think? thanks!

I was wondering the same thing. Do you put down an explanation?

^ I was wondering, too.

My favorite book actually IS a Harry Potter book, but my parents don't think I should put that unless I have the opportunity to explain why, since it's not considered "deep" or "classic." Thanks to plumsnow for asking this question, 'cause I need to know, too. :)

I didn't because the instructions do not indicate explanations are necessary. Why do more work than you have to? Although Stanford isn't Princeton, they indicate on their supplement that explanations aren't necessary. Just to put things into perspective.

True, if it doesn't say "explain" why do more.

I'm quite sure you can't explain your answers.. on the Princeton App, if your answer exceeds a certain character limit, it gets truncated.

even though you can only type into the small box, when you click "print preview" it shows that there actually is a lot of space for each of those answers. and it lets you write in a few sentences. on one hand, i feel like i should let them know as much about me as possible. but on the other hand, i don't want to give them superfluous information that they don't want.

i'm not getting into princeton anyways, so i might as well not waste my time including explanations hehe

True, if it doesn't say "explain" why do more.

Because it's Princeton and you want to do everything you can to help your application? Honestly these "details" probably barely (if at all) affect ones application so don't worry about it. I did decide to explain my answers (except fav word) but I'm sure either way is fine.
