A few Questions about UCLA

Hi, I am currently a senior in high school. I was accepted into UCLA for Fall 09 and I plan to submit my SIR soon.

I have three questions

I’ve heard that people are not allowed to bring their car to UCLA if they dorm? I don’t really believe this, but is there parking at UCLA for freshmen, or places around campus that aren’t extraordinarily expensive?

How do I figure out what classes I’m going to take next year? I’ve read a bit around the forums; I’m a Biochemistry Major, and I plan on taking the 14chem 3math sequence? But where would I find out more about this?

And then I see people referring to an easy GE list or teacher ratings? Where would I find stuff like this?

Thank you!

1) no parking for on-campus freshmen. unless you park it somewhere in westwood, but that would be inconvenient

2) you’ll learn more about that when you attend mandatory orientation in the summer. if you cant attend, then you can speak to a counselor. chem 14 series are: chem 14a, chem 14b, chem 14c, and chem 14bl. last one is lab. one class per quarter. i only know this from my friends, im actually econ major. math 3 series are: math 3a (differentiation), math 3b (integration), math 3c (stats focusing on probabilities and stuff). its easy compared to the 31 series and the 32 series, the rest of us had to take those

3) BruinWalk

hope this helps.

1) Parking is a premium in general. Highly unlikely to get one if you are dorming and have no legitimate reasons to have a car (e.g., work in downtown or something). Even if you do, it’s still lottery system weighted so that people who need it most will get it.

2) Biochemistry major is a physical science. So you must take 20/30 series. http://www.chemistry.ucla.edu/pdfs/UGradBiochemReq.pdf</a> Typically, you’d take Chem20A, a math class, and some GE for the first quarter. That link also has a suggested schedule. Again, just wait until Orientation.

Parking is incredibly difficult to get on campus. Off campus its a bit better, but its expensive. You should expect to pay about 150 a month for an off campus spot. You really don’t need a car though. There is so much to do on and around campus that you never really feel the need to leave. If you do though, you can take buses all over West LA for just a quarter per ride.

You’ll find out everything you need to know during your summer orientation session. The class schedule for Fall 09 isn’t even up yet ([UCLA Registrar’s Office Home](http://www.registrar.ucla.edu)), so you don’t need to worry about it yet.

Bruinwalk.com is a life savor. I don’t know if you have access yet, but once you have an official UCLA email address you can get on.
