Hi. I'm hoping to apply ED, but have a few questions first.

How is the career services office? How did the 2011 graduates fare with securing jobs?

Are all of the language departments strong? Will I have to continue with the language I studied in high school in order to qualify for a Middlebury study abroad program?

If I really want to be a Feb, will it hurt my chances for admission if I check February only?

How is the geology program? The geography program?

Are freshman allowed to have cars on campus?

Thank you so much for your thoughts. I've learned so much from the previous threads>

Yikes! Not much time for a big decision! Deadline is just over an hour away…

Not sure about jobs yet. My son is a senior. I know the career services dept is working REALLY hard though. We’ll see how it pans out.

You can start a new language at Midd. I think all are very strong. You can go abroad with your new language after a couple semesters. Maybe have to have intermediate level… not positive. Language courses are excellent and very intensive.

I don’t think it will hurt your chances if you want to be a Feb. You just have to be qualified.

Don’t know about geology.

Freshman are allowed to have cars on campus.

The geography department is supposed to be excellent. President Lebowitz is a geography professor. It might help slightly to check the “Feb” box but I wouldn’t check only that box. Maybe you can just indicate somewhere that you’re very interested in the Feb. program.

The Geography department is excellent. My student is a Geography major, Spanish minor. The professors are excellent, accessible and offer a wide range of emphasis and experience ( urban, human, environmental, GIS…). The major is very rigorous, but he has thoroughly enjoyed his academic experience. He is currently studying geography in South America. I believe very few of the other NESCAC schools offer a geography major.
As for languages, you must be fluent in the language of the country in which you choose to study. Middlebury brands itself as an international language school.
Hope this helps. Good luck with your decision.

Oh, so sorry I had the deadline mixed up! Didn’t mean to give you a panic attack!

I have one son who is a Feb and another who’s a Reg. Both are very happy and have made lots of great friends. The Febs are a very tight group, but do branch out and engage in lots of activities. The Reg had a ball in his all-freshman dorm.

Since my S is still in his jr year and my first in college, I don’t how the 2011 graduates fared, but I’ll presume they were well prepared to enter the workforce or matriculate to grad school. I know that the Geology Dept has good connections for internships.

S is studying with Middlebury in Latin America program. They have a coordinator in the country, but the students study the course work they select at the university of their choice congruent with their major. They also have an opportunity for an internship working with local people. Few classes have another Middlebury student. All classes are taught and tested in Spanish. The entire experience is remarkable.

My S does not lack for a social life, but is not part of a social house. (I’ve been told he has attended many fun parties) I think you should check out the “social houses’” link on the MiddleburyCC, as there seems to be a bit of controversy this year.
I cannot speak for an ED Feb admission; there are many MiddleburyCC who were Febs or whose kids are Febs., they would know more… OR … You may want to talk to admissions.
I’ll say again, he has thoroughly enjoyed his academic experience.
Hope this helps. Good luck with your decision.
