Sorry, I didn't know where else to put this since these are regarding questions on many topics.

First off, I have done a really terrible job my freshman through junior years of high school. I flunked many classes. It wasn't until this year that I had to pull my head out of my ass and take school serious, which is what I have been doing (I have all As in my classes). Sadly though, I feel it is too late and since my GPA was probably lower than a 2.0. I want to know how much my GPA would rise figuring that I have a 2.0, and am getting all As, 6 classes a day.

Secondly, I have been prepping for the ACT for months now and will be aiming to get around a 32 for sure. So figuring my GPA and a 32 ACT, with 7 years of Band and 300+ community service hours.. I'm also in this Winning Futures program. Could I possibly have a chance at Oakland University or University of Michigan (Ann Arbor)?

Also, i'm a senior, should I be applying for colleges now AND financial aid, at the same time, or wait until a college accepts me?

Yes, you should be applying for colleges now, look at the college websites, some have rolling admissions and others have deadlines. For FA, it depends on both the school and when you are applying. Again, the college websites have all of the information on what is required for applying for FA and deadlines.

It appears you live in MI. I’ll be frank: neither UM-Ann Arbor or Oakland seem to be viable given your GPA.

To your question about GPA. If your first six semesters are 1.8 and you get a 4.0 your first semester as a Senior: your GPA by time of application would be 2.1.

My suggestion would be to speak w/your guidance counselors about what the best road forward would be. Probably community college for a year or two – taking rigorous classes (not just the remedial ones) – will be high on your list of possibilities. Good luck to you.

By the way, the types of schools you’ll be eligible for won’t take into account your ECs. Continue them if they are fun – but not if they take away from your studies or test prepping (if that’s an option for you). Good luck on your ACTs and your lofty goals for your senior year. If you hit your marks, you’ll definitely be a great “comeback” story! Good luck!

Oakland requires a 2.5 for admissions. Your best path would probably be community college, but DEFINITELY talk to your guidance counselor as suggested above. There might be some possible non-cc option.

BTW we seem to live pretty close (I’m assuming) OU is about 5 minutes from my house :D
