I am currently a junior in high school and have a few questions:

1) I am interested in either getting into NEOUCOM or OSU and was wandering for NEOUCOM, should I send my SAT scores when it asks to where to send to, to NEOUCOM or the individual universities in it such as Akron, Youngstown, or Kent?

2) What is a good score to get on SATs and ACTs to be eligible to get into NEOUCOM?

3) If I were to go to OSU for undergrad, would I still be able to get into the 6/7 year programs offered at NEOUCOM?

4) I have been reading around and read that "premed" is not really a major just a set of course selections to take to get into med school, does it make any difference majoring in biochemistry or biology?

5) For going into these majors at all, should I be taking any SAT II subject tests? If so which ones? Also, for the subject tests, are they challenging or would I know most of the information from the high school courses I took like AP Chemistry, etc.

6) I am currently taking AP Calculus BC my junior year, does it make any difference if I am taking it right now rather than my senior year? My senior year math will only be AP Statistics.

7) While majoring in biochemistry, biology or whatever, I still have time to decide what specialization I want to go through after undergrad right?

Sorry for the many questions, just really puzzled by what I should be doing :).

4) Pre-med means you're taking the courses med schools require for admission. The ubiquitous courses needed everywhere are a year each of biology, gen chem, organic chem, and physics - and all need a lab attached to them (for a year as well). Requirements such as math and english courses vary slightly from school to school, but in general, if you take Calc I for a semester and a semester of stats, you should be good for math. For English, take two (at least one writing intensive) courses offered by the english department at your college and you'll be fine.

4b) Major doesn't matter - on the whole, the ratios of majors of matriculants to med school nation wide mirror precisely the ratios of majors of the applicant pool. So major in something that interests you, it doesn't have to be biology or chemistry.

5) I don't know much about SAT II tests (they weren't that big of deal when I was applying for college back in the dark ages of 2000/2001), but they're probably not a necessity as far as your major is concerned. However they might matter for you getting accepted to certain schools.

7) I'm assuming you mean specialty like radiology or surgery or pediatrics. In that regard you have until your fourth year of medical school to make that decision when you actually begin applying for and interviewing at residency programs.

You only send your SAT scores to NEOUCOM. You never have to send an application or scores to Akron/Youngstown/Kent.

The middle 50% of SAT scores for last year's class is from 1230-1390 out of 1600, so I'd say anything close to that should be good enough.

You have to apply to the program when you're in high school. You can't transfer into the program, and you have to go to UA/YSU/KSU for undergrad.

I'm pretty sure that NEOUCOM doesn't look at SATII scores. I didn't think that the SATII's that I took were as hard as the AP tests. I took the chemistry test after doing AP Chem and got a 780 without any extra studying.

If anything, I would think that it looks GOOD that you're in AP Calc BC as a junior.

Last year, out of the 299 Ohio residents that applied, 105 got in. As long as you live in Ohio and have good test scores and EC's, there's a good chance that you could get in. I think NEOUCOM is easier to get into than a lot of other BS/MD programs.

I got accepted into the program for next year, so if you have any more questions, feel free to PM me! :)
