A few questions on Vassar!

Hello all, I'm considering Vassar but i wanted two questions answered before i really consider it. Is there alot of parties/ sex in vassar? What do the parties normally involve? and are many people pressured into sex ect in this type of school? thx in advance!

Parties at Vassar fit primarily under two categories: public parties approved by the school's governing body and private ones thrown by an individual or small group. The public parties are held primarily on weekends and are more-often-than-not themed. Past examples of this include Heaven and Hell, Seven Sins, Scantily Clad, the Harvest Ball, and the Halloween Dance and usually involve a lot of dancing. Some of the events have alcohol available, however, it is only given to those over the age of 21 (usually of-age students wear a bracelet showing this, I believe). In addition to these parties, there is also an on-campus "club" called the Mug which hosts more dance parties, often with a theme as well (pajama night, 80's night, some of the student groups on campus will host nights). In addition to these parties, there are also a variety of other events available on-campus during the weekend which don't consist of dancing: movie showings, lectures, music venues, and so on.

The private parties are the ones where drinking tends to happen more. They're usually thrown by a student or small group of students and take place in either the senior housing or a dorm room. Although there are certainly exceptions, these sorts of parties take place mostly on weekend nights and are not publicly advertised. The people who attend them usually know the individual(s) throwing the party, are friends of a friend who knows the individual(s), or stumble on the party.

In regards to your second question about peer pressuring... there's really not much of that at Vassar. There are certainly people who choose to drink, do drugs, have sex, and so on, but they certainly don't force others to join them.

And lastly, I have no idea how many people at Vassar have sex... it's not the easiest thing to figure out, after all. I would say that plenty of people do, but that there are also plenty of people who don't. Other than that VERY general answer; however, I can't give you much more feedback on that.
