A few questions regarding U of Wisconsin-Madison

Hi all, I am a Singaporean who is intending to go to UW-Madison. Here are a few questions that I would like to ask:

Is UW- Madison relatively well-known by Singaporean employers (perhaps as compared to uiuc for a business major) ? This is because I do intend to return to Singapore after my undergraduate studies. While I've heard it has a pretty strong reputation in the US, I'm not sure what it is like within Singapore.

Does anyone know if the quality of education is likely to be greatly affected by the recent budget cuts? Also, should I expect to pay far higher tuition fees in the following years than those stated for 2012-2013?

Generally, do international students find it difficult to "fit in"?

I recently read an article about a shooting incident near the campus, though from what I have read so far, Madison seems to be a relatively safe place to be in. Could someone kindly advise on whether the level of security in Madison is a cause for concern?

Overall I've heard some great things about the school and student life, and Madison seems like a beautiful place :) Any input will be greatly appreciated... Thank you!

Hi

I have few Singaporean friends, and I think I can just answer few of your questions. I don’t go to wisconsin, so some might be wrong:

1) No. Sorry but Wisconsin is not well known in Asian nations at all, I don’t think UIUC is known as well internationally. The only few internationally recognized school are schools like Harvard, Yale, MIT or Stanford. Wisconsin doesn’t have a strong reputation in the US, it is just an Okay state school.

2) No, quality of education will likely be the same. They will find money otherwise. You should expect paying more since you are an international student (that’s one of the ways they will find money from).

3) No. Wisconsin is big, filled with diverse people.

4) Wisconsin should be relatively safe. But shooting in campus is American.
